Still makes more sense than this:

I have a great love for the Aurora hobby kit ads because they usually appear on the back covers of the comics. And I know the months that comics came out by the ad on the back. Even for older comics that came out before I was buying any, the ad instantly identifies when it was.

The OG Superman hobby kit from 1964--art by Curt Swan.

This ad from 1967 had a good representation of all the kits--

Not DC related hobby kits, but DCs carried this ad in 1971. Lucky for me it appeared inside the comics. If it had been on the back cover, I would have had to hide it from my mother--

My brothers and I had all of the glow-in-the-dark horror kits between us, as well as the Spidey one. Of all the model companies of my youth, Aurora was the first one that I had a kit from ("The Forgotten Prisoner of Castle Mare" in 1971 when I was five) and my favorite.

Inexplicably, I never owned any of the DC models. The supermodel kits weren't as ubiquitous as the horror ones, IIRC.

I had a model kit Batmobile (the 1966 TV one). Was it Aurora? I'm not sure, I was too little to make note of such things. Anyway, like a lot of other treasures from my childhood, my parents threw it out when I wasn't looking.

I had an SSP Batmobile that I loved as a kid, FWIW.

If any kids had my experience with Major Matt, the downward slide in sales might have been due to the fact that the toys fell apart after one day of use.

I got Matt himself, the jet propulsion pak, the space crawler and the moon suit all for Christmas that year and none of it stood up. The jet pack ran on a string that got tangled and wouldn't work. Matt's body was rubber with wire running through it and his arms soon fell off. And the other stuff made of hard plastic cracked and broke. But gosh that ad made him look so awesome. If I had to guess, I'd say Ken Bald did the comics art.

    The Moon Suit is hilarious!

What's "funny" is these sort of suits were pre moon landing Nasa concepts and prototypes.
So at the time were a legit vision of what might be.

They look like they're modeling maternity suits for robots.

The coupon for Palisades Park would appear every year in the DC mags. Always made me envy those lucky kids who could go to this wonderland. Not sure about the dates for these--anyone care to guess based on the value of the coupon and other clues in the ads?

Is this what became Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ?

Also wasn't the NY World's Fair promo comic, what would then become World's Finest?
