In Lethal Weapon they didn't recast but instead went with a new OC for season 3 (and killed-off the character being replaced). Season 3 was the last season before it was axed.

That was due to Damon Wayans wanting to leave, though, not because the ratings were bad.

Still a better option than a random insert IMO. Sophie or Julia would actually make some sense to take the mantle.

I agree. Still not better than a recast, but I could swallow it a little easier than the new one (despite her gorgeousness ).

Well the show gave everyone not named Kate and Alice some silly moments. Still can't believe Sophie never realised she was feeling up her ex.

Damon was ready to leave part for health and family reasons. So that show was as good as doa.

As for the Vanessa rumor-I can see it as it would be a good way to shut her up, give her a bigger role elsewhere and write her off Riverdale. She was fussing vbut failed to mention that show has two black female producers. So they co-signed on a lot of what she fussed about.

Still think its a stupid move to throw in another character. I am definitely in the corner of just recast and keep it moving otherwise you undermine everything you did in season one.

The ratings were still good enough for renewal had Wayans stayed on, FWIW.

That's a CW thing, secret identities must be adhered to despite when other characters should be able to figure it out. Happened in Supergirl with Lena Luthor, too. Lena should have figured that out much quicker.

The irony is, Superman actually started out as a serious exception to this. Lois Lane figured it out early, but kept failing to prove it. She was effectively a minor secondary villain in many early comics, always knowing Clark was Superman, but constantly failing to prove it.

Ya know, with these latest promos 'Bat Chat' talking about season 1 and the lead up to Safiya - I'm getting mixed-messages.

What exactly is the point of characters like Safiya without Kate? She's a Kate specific villain and yet they are still promoting her as going ahead. The articles a few weeks back spoke of how Scarecrow will be "Ryan's" villain (what will Safiya be a villain of the week?). Scarecrow is a Batman villain, that gets shared around with his family from time to time. Alice and Safiya are specific to Kate, and haven't had true encounters with anyone else in the Batfamily, let alone a random newbie.

There's been no further official news of "Ryan" since the backtracking that Kate will no longer be killed off. And despite how that announcement was worded - the earlier articles in addition to the leaked audition tapes make it very clear they were going to kill her off (until the backlash hit and they changed their minds). I can still hold the fantasy that they'll backtrack on replacing Kate as well.

Anyone else find it strange that in the promo piece stated to discuss Season 2 secrets - they don't. They just say watch Season 1...Are they stalling for time or having a crisis of confidence? I think both, personally.
They still seem to be getting swamped in demands for a Kate recast every time they do these promos, from I can tell.
