Is she forgetting about Black Lightning? She wasn't the first major black Superhero show even on that network.

She wasn't even the first Black LGBTQ superhero in a show- that would have been one of the daughters on Black Lightning. Or Nora on The Flash. Hell, I think Iris got powers for an episode before Ryan Wilder showed up.

Speaking of which does anyone remember I think it was called Mantis it was on in the 90's on Fox with Carl Lumley as the main character a scientist I believe with a super tech suit. Just the Black Lightning being 1st for the CW made me think of it.

I vaguely remember that show. I think it was on around the same time as the original The Flash, and my favorite show from around that time, VIPER!

I don't necessarily think she's forgetting everything but Batwoman did make a Black lesbian the star/lead of the show. That hasn't been the case thus far.

BL had Anissa but she wasn't the titular character so Ryan was the first to headline. Which is still a pretty big step.

You can argue Watchmen did the Black woman as superhero lead first with Regina King. I don't recall it ever being viewed as such but I didn't watch it until a year after it aired so not too sure.

I do wonder if Batwoman did have any ~ impact ~ on Naomi being picked up.

As noted Black Lightning on the CW and his family was representing well before her tenure as Ryan/Batwoman
Also, way to go Jokerz79 for the call back to the 90s with M.A.N.T.I.S. Frontier, you've not heard of it? It was basically low budget network Iron Man in many regards.
Heck even the HBOMax Watchmen beat the Ryan/Batwoman by a year.
