Thank you Disney for destroying the movie tie-in console game industry!

Most of those tie-in games were not very good (the Sega MCU games were pretty bad), so not basing it on movies and taking the time to make a game that does not have to be released with the movie is for the best.

The shift away from console games seemed to be Disney's historic desire to do everything in-house, which is why for a few years the only thing they were really doing with the Marvel license on consoles was Disney Infinity. After Disney's game division went out of business, they seemed to loosen this and are now more open to licensing out the properties again. (I believe the first confirmation of PS4 Spider-Man and MVC: Infinite came just a few months after Disney Infinity shut down.)

The big telling sign was earlier this year when Disney's CEO flat out said Disney was not good at video games, and that it made better business sense to just license the characters out to other companies.

That’s kind of sad when you think about it as not all Disney in-house video games weren’t that bad.

I doubt Disney did anything. Movie tie-in games have a long history of sucking. They were finally phased out with the last generation. I think Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the last major movie tie-in game

The first Amazing Spider-Man game was actually pretty solid.

Spider-Man probably had the better track record with movie tie-in games then most.

I always felt that Web of Shadows refined the formula of Spider-Man 2. That games never gets the props it deserves.
