Default Top 3 Favorite in-decade TV shows per Decade?

    Ground Rules:

    1. You must be watching, or have watched, the show first-run. No reruns nor discovering them via Nick@nite.

    2. The shows in question have to be all (or vastly) within the given decade. It can start (The first season) or end (the final season) outside the given decade, but the vast majority are within the decade.

    3. We're going with the traditional edition of "decade" (starts Jan 1, Year Ending in Zero through Dec 31, Year Ending in Nine) as opposed to the technical edition (starts Jan 1, Year Ending in One through Dec 31, Year Ending in Zero).

    2010s
    =====

    1. Game of Thrones
    2. BoJack Horseman
    3. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
    4. Community

    1970s:
    1. All in the Family
    2. Soap
    3. Laverne & Shirley

L&S is more of a childhood favorite as I wasn't as wowed by it when I saw it as an adult on DVD. AITF and Soap still hold up for me very well and are two of my favorite shows of all time. I also loved Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett, and those hold up better, but at the time I liked L&S and Mork and Mindy (Season 1) better.

    1980s:
    1. Dynasty and Dallas
    2. The Golden Girls (still one of the funniest shows in history)
    3. Moonlighting

    1990s:
    1. Friends
    2. Will and Grace (another of the 3 "dream cast" shows where everyone won an acting Emmy. The other two being AITF and GG).
    3. Roseanne

I'd also add in Seinfeld for the 1990s.

Don't really care about TV too much after the 90s to pick favorites even though I know there's lots of good shows. However, the writing style is often too sitcom-like even on the dramas, and that takes me out of the story. The sitcoms are even worse with no real jokes--just lots of insipid millennial/hipster banter.

I'm not sure how you qualify Doctor Who because of it's long tenure on tv. But NuWho would be right at the top of my list if we could include it.

    1990's
    X-Files
    Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Stargate SG-1 (if this doesn't count then Highlander)

    00's
    Battlestar Galactica
    Breaking Bad
    Lost

    2010's
    Fringe
    Supernatural
    Game of Thrones

It was hard leaving TWD off the list, but in the end, I enjoy the other shows more. Another show that I absolutely love is Luther. If it had more episodes, it may have made my list, but I just can't justify putting a show into my top three based on 16 episodes no matter how great they are.
“Now faith, hope, and love remain, and the greatest of these is love.”--1 Corinthians 13:13

    “You had a dream; I have a plan”--Cyclops

“There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes.”--The Doctor

Kind of tough, because some of my favorite shows straddled the line between decades. "WKRP in Cincinnati" ran from 1978-82 and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" from 1997-2003. And those are probably my favorite scripted comedy and drama of all time.

    But, going by the rules:

    1970's (ages 3-13):
    M*A*S*H
    The Carol Burnett Show
    Barney Miller

    1980's (ages 13-23):
    Night Court
    Cheers
    The A-Team

    1990's (ages 23-33):
    The Simpsons
    Xena: Warrior Princess
    Mystery Science Theater 3000

(Northern Exposure, The X-Files and Star Trek: TNG as strong honorable mentions)

    2000's (ages 33-43):
    Lost
    Arrested Development
    Veronica Mars

(Angel, Firefly, Venture Bros. as strong honorable mentions)

    2010's (ages 43- ):
    Game of Thrones
    Agents of SHIELD
    The Good Place

Interesting. Obviously subject to change as I learn more about shows, and watch older episodes.

1950s: I Love Lucy, Honeymooners, The Twilight Zone
1960s: The Twilight Zone, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Star Trek
1970s: MASH, All in the Family, Saturday Night Live (From what I've seen)
1980s: Bit of a black hole for me. I've got to watch Cheers, The Cosby Show, St Elsewhere, and Hill Street Blues
1990s: The Simpsons, Friends, and Seinfeld.
    2000s: 24, The Sopranos, Futurama
2010s: Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Community
    Sincerely,

Did you really watch these in first-run as the OP said?
