And I saw it just about two months later on my 21st birthday- and I believed a man could fly.

This filled me with sadness because of the eventual fate of the two stars.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

You're a "half empty glass" kind of guy, aren't you?

Well, i was barely one year old when this movie came out so i'm not going to pretend that i remember anything about that release, or anything else from that years of 78 really, but i do remember watching it some 6 years later or something on tv.

And thus, my love for super powered heroes in general and Superman in particular started.

I was born in '81 and watched it on TV when I was about 5 or 6.

The best Superman movies are still the first two Christopher Reeve ones.

You beat me to it. Not bashing anything else but the 1978 Superman movie is currently in no danger of continuing to be regarded as the greatest of all Superman movies.

You mean "...the 1978 Superman movie is currently in no danger of NOT continuing to be regarded as the greatest of all Superman movies," right?

I have a feeling that as time passes Man of Steel will win over a lot of the naysayers and be evaluated more positively.

However, since this thread is about Superman '78, I'll add my thoughts that I also love the first two Reeve movies, and if anyone has bought the 4K version that Warners came out with to celebrate it, I'd like to know if the picture quality is above and beyond what we've seen on the Blu-Ray.

This thread did not get the attention it deserved. Where's all the love for one of the genre defining films?
    TRUTH, JUSTICE, HOPE
That is, the heritage of the Kryptonian Warrior: Kal-El, son of Jor-El

Correct. That was poor wording on my part.

You may be right. If the concept of who and what Superman is keeps changing, MoS may be more accepted. Well, once all of us old fogeys that grew up in the Silver Age kick the bucket.
