We have to talk about Norman.
We have to talk about Norman.

That looks like American Hustle...I think the guy there is Harry and not Norman.
Peter with side-burns...yeah. Gwendy looks so weird. Not familiar with 70s fashion but can someone tell me if that bob cut was fashionable then.
Saturday Norman Fever
That's Harry, I am sure. That's Peter's gang in that era...Norman being there would look weird.
Have to say though, that is the best update and redesign of the Osborn cornrows waves I've seen yet. Looks consistent and yet new.
Not a fan of MJ having a more Sal Buscema hairstyle in the 70s. Feel it should look like Romita's.
The bob was around then, but not very common in my recollection. It was kind of a feminist statement, you know? Like "we can have short hair just like the men!" It was a lot more common to see short hair but have it be permed or kind of feathered back a bit.
Lee/Romita Gwen in the 1970s would have had the feathered back look with medium to long hair. Think Farrah Fawcett. No way she'd have a bob, she was too straight-laced to do that. In the comics MJ adopted the short, curly hair look which is a close facsimile to the bob look. And it was horrible!

Every day is a gift, not a given right.
There are a few things however we need to discover. We are assuming this will take place on a Earth alot like 616 by with the history and culture times showcased. But being a Elseworld this Gwen could be different from 616. There are now Gwens in the Multiverse with shorter hair then 616 version like Earth-65 and a few others Lee/Romita isn't the set standard anymore for Gwen. Usually a Gwen version dating a Peter/Spider-Man version many will assume the 616 version standards as we are familiar with that version in that capacity thus appearance and fate we also assume must follow but being a Elseworld a twist might happen that goes against way we think will happen and how the characters act, choices, and appearance even.
This Gwen having the bob cut is basically another shorter hair Gwen version but the bob cut has a level of maintenance and style to it also beyond the standard short hair styles.
This Gwen version will be able to be a 'Gwen Stacy' but when put alongside other Gwens of the Multiverse she will be able to stand out with her own look inspired by the 70's. Also with MJ having the long wavy hair the bob cut is the other spectrum. Beautiful, stylish of the era, but controlled vs MJs wild locks. Thus it allows Gwen and MJ to be two different looking characters establishing individuals also in design. We don't know if the two ladies might be expressing rights as well in different ways or just wanting to change with the times.
Also based on some pictures the Bob Cut on Gwen can look beautiful. I went to see if I could find that exact style to get a real world idea what this Gwen might look like or help inspire for a artist:
My namesake better appear in the 70s issue.
And I can’t wait to see how they tackle the clone saga in their 90s issue.
What a groovy, innovative series!
Ever since this was announced, I’ve been sooo undecided whether I should pick this up or not.
But yeah, it’s ridiculously innovative and could go one way or another (how I also see “Meet the Skrulls”) - I think I’ll give this crazy story a go.
