I would buy it, but Gladiator has to be in it. One of my favorite characters...

Not as an ongoing, but if they can assign it to a decent creative team, I'd get a mini-series. The one they had in the 90s looked awful -- and I avoided it like the plague.

There was an Imperial Guard limited series in the 1990s?

An IG has a lot of characters to play with, all of whom we know little.

My suggestion was more aimed at avoiding the Imperial Guard being pulled into one of the many crappy cosmic events that other teams and characters have been pulled into, which almost always disrupt narratives and plots. Moving them across time, not just space, also gives them a chance to host their own major epic events without it necessarily interfering with the present.

As for human membership, it never hurts to have that contrasting perspective on otherwise cosmic and extraterrestrial phenomena without having the all-knowing narrator convey that to the reader. It can be conducive to immersion for some. But you're right: it's not an absolute requirement, given the right creative team.

Yes, in the late 90s Marvel published an IG mini series. If memory served, it didn't feature the entire team, just a handful of members, including Gladiator, Mentor, Oracle, Nightshade/Nightside, etc.

Well they already have a human member in the current Smasher, courtesy of Hickman. They just never showed her origin as to how she got chosen.

I wasn't sure if she joined the Guard and remained with them, or if she had returned to Earth. Definitely on board with keeping her with the Guard, at least as a long tour of duty.
