Default X-Men comics are getting dumber

“All life is connected. Humans have no more inherent value than animals. I have the powers of a cosmic being and I see things from all angles. I need love and friendship to anchor me because I’m still human.” - Jean, Classic X-Men #13

    Vs

“Woah dudes did you just see X-23 unnecessarily slaughter that dinosaur! So cool! I probably could have put it to sleep with my powers or had it transported to the Savage Land but who cares because Bobby just made a funny joke.” Jean, Uncanny X-Men #2

Well yes. We know that simply from the lack of character moments.

Infinite combinations of characters and yet the only books somewhat exploring the personalities, thoughts, and relationships of the characters are X-23 and Rogue & Gambit.

She's secretly been a Hydra agent since she came back. The dino slaughter is just the mask slipping for a sec.

Bad comparisons. You are comparing a scene that's supposed to be humorous and fun to a philosophical one. Better comparison would be X-Men: Red #11 or Uncanny X-Men #5. Or pretty much the whole X-Men: Red series. Now that's something that's trying to be deep and intelligent but turns out corny and dumb.

And Wolverine(any) fanboy writing should never be taken seriously anyway.

Lord Claremont was a godsend to the franchise. His Bolton backup stories from Classic X-Men are among his finest works, for certain.

That's more of the fault of having so many characters in Uncanny, the "little guys/gals" need something to do so the people capable of handling the situation with ease on their own just stand back. I'm still shocked that Psylocke couldn't mess with a mob with tp because something something they are angry.

I think it is fair to say the average issue of modern X-Men is inferior to the average issue of X-Men under Claremont, even if their might be outliers in either era.

I just think that storytelling has changed. now many comics have a lot more action, violence and one liners, as opposed to slower issues that take 30 minutes to read like claremont used to write.

    But this ISN'T entertaining.

It's a lack of words and writing...which is sad for a BOOK.

The comics read like the art was done for instagram and the script written with a limit for twitter. People who pay $4+ for a book would actually like to have words to read.

And Narration boxes....there's nothing wrong with explaining what's going on. You shouldn't have to be reliant on a writer's twitter/tumblr to be told what's going on in a comic book.
