What effect will AQUAMAN's movie have on his overall franchise?

The buzz on Aquaman's first solo movie has been far better than expected and still growing ahead of its official opening weekend here in the States. It's going gangbusters overseas and looks like it may be a legitimate hit once it debuts in America.

My question: what do you predict will happen to the Aquaverse franchise as a whole?

I mean, we've seen scenarios where a widely-scorned movie couldn't tank a superhero franchise (GREEN LANTERN) in the comics.

And we've seen scenarios where a widely-divisive movie had zero net effect on a superhero franchise (MAN OF STEEL) in the comics.

And we've seen scenarios where a widely-hailed movie couldn't lift a superhero franchise (WONDER WOMAN) in the comics.

And of course, there's the rarest scenario: where a widely-hailed movie is fed by and simultaneously vastly lifts a superhero franchise (BATMAN) in the comics.

Which, out of those three scenarios, is most likely to be Aquaman's worth regards to his movie affecting his comics?

Nothing happens. DC editorial clearly didn't think the movie would breakout like the way it has.

I mean their next creative team is doing a soft reboot with the character having amnesia. So I think rather than embracing a lot of the mythology which has been at the forefront of previous runs (and the new movie), they are trying to run away from that.

If the new creative team tanks they probably should perhaps position themselves to embrace the previous runs instead of avoiding it.

Like I said before if they really had any confidence in the movie, they probably would have continued the Abnett run or gotten Johns to finish his Seven Seas story.

given they've already greenlit the sequel after just a 2 days of the release, the Aquaverse franchise looks good.

Agree with your point of Green Lantern. Such a shame, such good comics, could of easily had a trilogy ending with the white lanterns.

on your point of Batman, lets not forget about Batman & Robin, horrible film. Everynow and then you need a reboot. And also if Heath Ledger had not died would as many people have gone to watch the Dark Knight? Not taking anything away from his performance, it was EPIC. But still, would as many people have gone to watch it?

The movie was comparable to WARCRAFT with a great deal more effort on general world building than character and cohesion. As the current stuff is largely build on Johns run and that is the bulk of the filmverse I imagine impact will be light.

What would be smart is if the massive amount of backstory they crammed into the film would be fleshed out via a streaming property for their service.

It does not matter.

We can have AquaMomoa, PAD 90's Aquaman, Young Justice Animated Aquaman, JLU Aquaman, current comics Aquaman or Brave and the Bold Aquaman.

Bearded Aquaman is still the best Aquaman.
