    Default It should've taken a village ...

I was just reading a copy of Wonder Woman, where in the midst of The Epic Crisis of the the story, The Justice League arrives, armed for bear and ready to rumble (a bit too late in this case, but there they were).

It put me to thinking: how many times should a superhero's adventurers should have attracted The Cavalry?

    For example:

The Cyborg-Superman and Mongul obliterating Coast City during "The Return Of Superman" should have drawn everybody from The Justice League to The Cub Scouts.

Over at Marvel, Galactus' first visit should have had The Avengers and X-Men swarming The Baxter Building, along with Dr. Strange and SHIELD.

If we want to go real Old School about this, where were Superman, The (original) Seven Soldiers Of Victory, Robotman, Jonny Quick (et al.) when The (original) Injustice Gang pretty much conquered the country?

The full implications of a shared world almost have to be ignored like 99% of the time, really. Otherwise, in modern Marvel and DC, you're really always working with some kind of version of that 50 State Initiative thing ... if not as well organized, you should always have some kind of militia of super-beings responding to anything larger than a super-powered street fight. If it's a threat bigger than a single fight, there should always be more teams or just random heroes who are able to jump in to help.

Really, this is part of why I think the comics and tv versions of Jessica Jones were so different. In the original stories, it was really all about being a regular, non-heroic person living in the margins of this world full of superheroes and villains. Most of that world wasn't present in the tv version, so they had to go a different -- less interesting, to my mind -- route with it.

Peter Parker was rendered unconscious because his Spider-sense was completely overloaded by Galactus's arrival.
Daredevil simply didn't see it coming.
Both the Avengers and X-men were off planet at the time.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.
