Actually even cover is exactly what you told. Character poses, front objects and even colors are used on cover just to make readers to look at Cyke. Others are wallpapers.
Don't expect it to be more then Cyke solo with Logan as supportive character.

It is a bloated cast, but honestly it's only until Age of X is concluded. Besides, you know darn well that they are going to do something crappy to the New Mutants that are infected by the TO virus that will sideline them anyway. So this team might as well be "Cyclops. Wolverine. Havok. Multiple Man. Banshee. Hope" in 3 issues.

Aside from the things in the Bingo card, other issues with this team are I don't see it being very exciting to readers and retailers (mainly on the cover failing to sell this is a team lineup and not a horde of characters) and the clashing aesthetics of the characters. All these guys in 2000's suits on the right, the retro squad on the left wearing uniforms that match with no one. I don't want uniforms, but I would like them to stop being so piss scared of just drawing up some new designs when they have so much art talent.

And Banshee is still stupid.

They look like Marvel zombies. This is a HUGE pass. Rosenberg has been a disappointment from phoenix resurrection to the lastest issues of Uncanny Disassembled. Throw in the cast and horrible art and you cant pay me to read this.

Astonishing had 6 members which is a fairly normal number for a team book, but with a team of 10 is almost certain that at least two or three will end up as wallpaper.

Gillens Extinction Team had 11 members. There are far too many volatile personalities in that roster for any to be ignored bar Banshee.
