    The simplest answer: it's just based on sales. If the floppies sell enough, they'll release a trade. If the trades sell enough, they'll release an oversized hardcover. If the hardcovers sell enough, they'll release an omnibus or an absolute.

    Of course, if there is a tie-in movie or TV show, that might convince a company to release a prestige format that sales might not otherwise dictate. See, for instance, the iZombie omnibus, which I'm fairly certain would not exist without the CW show that is loosely based on it.

    But the shortest, best answer remains simply that a company will release a prestige format if they have a reason to believe it will sell well.
