Default Did 'From Hell It Came' inspire Groot?'

'From Hell It Came' is a 1957 grade-Z monster movie about a man who becomes a tree monster (The Tabanga). Groot premiered some five years later in one of Marvel's monster mags. Is there a connection? Not likely, as Groot was a giant monster from space out to conquer the universe and The Tabanga was a mix of the supernatural and radiation that just wanted revenge.

Gort and The Destroyer are one among many examples that make me suspect Kirby and his generation cribbed a lot from B movies.
