Until Brock is back as the Venom than as far as I'm concerned Venom is having a holiday personally.

Cool Spider-Man Spinoff Venom Moving Forward Again at Sony

    http://screenrant.com/spider-man-venom-movie-sony/
"If the new Sony series does in fact divorce Venom completely from Spider-Man, it may mean they’ll need to find a new origin and identity for the character. Traditionally, the first Venom was Eddie Brock"
Aw Man, possibility of no Eddie Brock?

    Cool

There will only ever be one true Venom, no matter how many other people wear the suit.

    Happy Birthday Joe Rubinstein!!!

    Editor: Danny Fingeroth
    Writer: Carl Potts
    Pencils: Tom Lyle
Inker: Al Milgrom, Josef Rubinstein, Scott Hanna

“Fabulous 1st Issue!” Because if there’s any word to describe two mass murderers in black causing a gigantic body count, it’s “fabulous”. Then again, there was that time that Wolverine caught Frank carrying gay porn around. And they are in San Francisco.

Before I get to the story, I have to comment on a part I find absolutely hilarious. This little kid goes to Venom for help and we see Eddie Brock chilling in his street clothes.

There are four reasons why I consider this funny.

    1) Eddie Brock wears Zubaz pants. Any time somebody wears Zubaz pants, it’s automatically funny. See also: Hammer pants.

    2) The artist decided that regular pants wouldn’t do and made sure to point out that Eddie is wearing Zubaz pants by drawing a logo for it.

    3) Eddie isn’t wearing actual Zubaz pants here. That’s the symbiote in the form of street clothes. In other words, Eddie specifically asked the symbiote to take the form of Zubaz pants with the Zubaz label included.

    4) Those look nothing like Zubaz pants.

The story is centered around Gray Russell, an undercover reporter who has joined a dangerous street gang called the Jadoo. Gray joined the group to get closer to a secret, abandoned Hydra base he heard about from his father. He’s reached the point where they’re going to initiate him by making him kill someone in a drive-by. He sends a messenger to get help via the police, but gets Venom instead. Venom goes with it because the guy is both an innocent and a fellow reporter.

Punisher shows up in Microchip’s van full of gadgets and computers. He’s heard about the brewing gang war in San Francisco and wants to clean up. Venom sees him and asks him to help out, since they’re both killer vigilantes. Frank refuses for two reasons. First, if Russell is hanging out with the Jadoo, chances are he’s already done some messed up stuff that makes him a target for the Punisher. Second, while Frank has a code about killing bad guys, Venom is just a psycho that uses it to justify his bloodlust. Frank even brings up those guards that Venom murdered back at the Vault.

The throwdown begins. Frank Castle’s experience is textbook Batman. Frank vs. Venom straight up? Venom wipes the floor with him. Give Frank enough prep time to see what Venom’s weaknesses are and get the right weapon? Now Frank is the winner.

In the second issue, a lot of the comic is just Punisher and Venom each going around killing gang members. Frank is just out to kill anyone that moves while Venom is searching for Russell and killing anyone who isn’t Russell.

Russell is forced to go ahead with the drive-by and is haunted by having committed murder. He gets to the secret Hydra base and tries to hide from all the warfare going on by sneaking into some containment tube. Wouldn’t you know it, it gives him microwave powers, turning him into this:

Now known as Pyre, he kills some of the other Jadoo guys and tries to kill the Punisher. Venom pops in and Pyre gets seriously pissed upon learning that Venom was the one sent to save him. Because of him, Pyre is a murderer. Venom doesn’t want to hurt Pyre. He especially doesn’t want Frank to hurt Pyre. Yet he has to defend himself against a guy whose very essence is like kryptonite to Venom. At one point, left with no choice, Venom drops a big chunk of the ceiling on Pyre, crushing his legs.

“Turn me into a monster! Cripple me! It can’t get much worse… Come on! Let’s finish it!”

“We… we… are so sorry! Promise not to attack us again and we will free you!”

“I’d rather fry and take you with me!”

Despite all the problems of the story, this is the saving grace. Venom doesn’t even realize it, but he’s staring right in the mirror. Despite Venom’s good intentions, he is faced with a monster that blames all of his own problems on Venom. It wasn’t Pyre’s fault that he killed those people. Venom forced him to do it by not saving him in time. Venom thought he had a common bond with this troubled reporter and he was more right than he expected.

The place burns down, Pyre dies and Venom and Punisher have a little argument over who is at fault and who was right. As much as the two would love to tear each other apart, the police are on their way. They part, hoping to get another rematch in the future.

When they do a Venom/ Alien costume film it'd be cool if they could use Vantablack.

    Happy Birthday Larry Hama!!!

by Larry Hama, with Josh Hood doing art.

The story begins with Venom crawling through the sewer, on his way home. He just came back from an encounter with Wolverine and is wondering why some vigilantes are beloved while the real heroes have to hide out underground. He gets to his bunker and finds that Detectives Clark and Steen have both discovered his hideout and booby-trapped it.

They’ve installed giant speakers in his lair, which weaken him enough to give the SWAT team a shot at bringing him down. Venom escapes them, but is then stopped by Detective Clark, who carries a magnum with armor-piercing bullets. He warns Venom that it might be enough to kill him, but it’s just there to waste his time as Steen hits him with a loud, concentrated sonic blast.

They chain him up and put him in an armored van with Flight of the Bumblebee cranked out to deafening levels. After Eddie’s tossed into a cell, a Dr. Yao appears with a special dose of dopamine blocker, which causes both the symbiote to become dormant and causes Eddie to lose his mental and nervous connection to the creature. Of course, even with this, the guards proceed to torture him with the stereo system for the sake of torturing him.

Government official and mutant-hating X-Men villain Bastion appears for a moment to make sure Venom is in no way a mutant. With him is Agent Smith, who tells Venom to quiet down on recognizing him for now.

Speaking of government, with Eddie being a hobo, he can’t afford a lawyer. That means he’s appointed none other than Matt Murdock. Matt explains that Eddie’s in deep ****. His list of charges go on for 200 pages and he’s probably going to get the death penalty. The best course of action would be to take the insanity plea, but Eddie’s completely against it.

Murdock lists some of the prosecutions many witnesses, including Carnage. Eddie laughs at that, wondering why they didn’t just get Spider-Man. As Matt explains, 1) they haven’t been able to subpoena him and 2) he’s going to be used as a witness for the defense. Trying to come up with other witnesses to help out, Eddie brings up Wolverine and Agent Smith. Wolverine can’t work because with all the Onslaught stuff that just happened, mutants are too touchy to deal with. Agent Smith… well, Eddie doesn’t remember the guy’s full name nor what secret branch of the government he works for. So yeah, Eddie’s kind of screwed.

Further screwed, as it turns out. Back when he first became Venom, he murdered a police officer and hid him under a church’s floorboards. Wouldn’t you know it, Detective Clark has uncovered the body. When asked by Murdock whether or not he killed the guy, Eddie sidesteps it by saying that “Eddie Brock” didn’t do it, but the alien costume kind of did. Eddie never was good at making excuses.

Unlike most trials, this doesn’t take all that long. I mean, it starts in the second issue and goes to hell before the cliffhanger. Cletus Kasady is used as a witness for the prosecution, telling lies about his time as Eddie’s cellmate. Like how Eddie would brag about all the people he slaughtered, like that cop. Murdock is quick to cross-examine him enough to prove he’s lying.

Outside, Spider-Man swings by to check up on things. He won’t be needed for weeks, but with Carnage being questioned, he’s being cautious. Then Dr. Yao runs over, panicked. He just found out that symbiotes can break through his dopamine blocker if their hosts generate enough adrenaline.

Spider-Man brings him in and just as expected, Cletus is all Carnage’d out. Way to go, Murdock! Spider-Man fights with Carnage and Eddie Brock can take no more. Despite his lawyer’s warnings, Eddie becomes Venom and busts into the fight.

At first, Venom is able to bring down Carnage. He ignores Spider-Man’s pleas not to murder the villain. Daredevil shows up and makes the same request, claiming that he, Spider-Man and the police have everything well in hand. Carnage pops back up, now with an adrenaline high that makes him near invincible.

Amongst the fighting, Venom tries to sneak away until the prosecutor gets on his case for being a coward. Venom points out that Spider-Man and Daredevil have things under control, only to discover – whoops! – not so much. Carnage is so energized that a full-on punch from Spider-Man doesn’t even faze him. Before Carnage can get at Daredevil, Venom pounces on him and delivers a harsh beating. Then he pulls out a needle he borrowed from Dr. Yao.

After bitching Cletus out, Venom delivers another dopamine blocker injection just to make sure he’s powerless. Cletus is pulled away in chains, leaving Venom surrounded. They ask him to take some of the dopamine blocker and revert to Eddie Brock for the sake of the judge’s consideration. As he’s deciding, Agent Smith enters the courthouse, making sure to be out of earshot of all the curious reporters.

He has signed documents from the President, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Defense to put Venom in their custody in the name of national security. All charges are to be dropped.

Once they’re in transport, Eddie asks about what all this is. Smith hands him a badge. For amnesty, Eddie is going to be a secret agent for the government! Isn’t that something? Venom working for the government in return for amnesty ten years before Marvel tried it again in a more high-profile setting. http://www.comicsreporter.com/index....ay_larry_hama/

I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I really liked Ultimate Venom. The Ultimate Spider-man video game where both Spider-man and Venom were playable was one of my favorites back in the day.
