People call it that because there are hints that...spoilers:

Cthulhu and the other Lovecraftian gods are behind the apocalypse.

There really isn't, though. Or there are, at best, only hints. So again, promoting it as a "Lovecraftian" movie is pretty deceptive/misleading.

Oh, the hints are there alright and they stick out like a sore thumb. Especially, with creatures abilities.

Though I will admit that it’s not officially labeled as Lovecraftian and could just be taking inspiration.
