Default Nominees for greatest major comics event series?

Looking for your nominees (or flat out choice) for the Greatest major crossover comic book event from either DC or Marvel.

Not sure how to quantify "major comics event". But this would be something that effected the entire DCU or MCU, had a major implications shortly after the event ended, etc. Something that had a main mini series, tie-in issues, etc.

So things that come to mind are Crisis on Infinite Earths, Civil War, Secret Invasion, Death of Superman.

What is the greatest major comics event in your opinion?

I think one of the best is Invasion from DC. It was big and fast the perfect way to do a major crossover. It lasted 3 months total and that was it and covered nearly every book. Even the main book was only 3 issues but they were oversized 80 paged giants. It also spawned some great book like Justice League Europe, L.E.G.I.O.N., and Morrison's Doom Patrol.

Unlike the overwhelming majority of mega-special event crossover comics, Crisis on Infinite Earths actually mattered after it was over.

House of M, is the only major crossover event from either of the big two that I've bought/read and didn't think it was a waste of time/money.
Continuity, even in a "shared" comics universe is often insignificant if not largely detrimental to the quality of a comic.

In retrospect, hate it like pollen. But in both scope and impact, nothing compares to Crisis On Infinite Earths.

It was also actually good. So that one for DC.

On the Marvel side, Infinity Guantlet and the original Secret War were probably the best.

As a comparable storyline the recent Secret Wars, probably. Wasnt really that great though.

Oh, if crossovers count, JLA/Avengers was pretty amazing.

For scope and scambbling status quo, I'd have to assign two sides of a die each to "AvX, "Secret Invasion," and "House of M," then roll for best of eleven.

I can't help thinking, however, that the real grandpa of Events is divided between "The Avengers/Defenders War" and The Human Torch/Sub-Mariner team-up/smack-down of 1940

COIE is the granddaddy of them all, but I'll be the guy who votes for Infinite Crisis. The lead-up stories and tie-ins make it a pretty awesome package.

The original Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, because it was my first, and as a 14-year-old, seeing all the Marvel heroes fighting all the Marvel villains was just so cool you guys!

And because it led to Spidey's black costume.
