When Themyscira sinks Hippolyta ends up marrying the king of Atlantis, Aquaman, for a treaty thus making Diana the step-daughter of Aquaman and the princess of Atlantis.

Or maybe... When the Amazons forced Hercules to leave he did something to sink the island. Maybe Hercules did something to enrage Poseidon while he was there? So Paradise Island goes sploosh and their patron deity makes a magic barrier to prevent everyone from drowning.

Hmmmmm. A huge villainous threat emerges. The Justice League battle the competent threat who is able to easily and quickly identify the weaknesses of the Justice League members (e.g. Batman is human, kryptonite for Superman, "yellow" for Green Lantern, fire for Martian Manhunter, etc). The Justice League are all killed. Wonder Woman, given she has no natural weaknesses, is the only hero left standing but is severely injured defeating the threat. Diana is comatose and the Amazons retrieve her to use the purple healing ray on Themyscira in an attempt to heal her. It works, but it takes a LONG time (i.e. 20+ years). And, due to an unknown side effect of the ray, Diana ages while the ray is healing her wounds.

Diana awakes to a world unlike any she has ever known. Man's world is in a state of chaos with no heroes - the Justice League all died and all of the junior heroes either died due to their inexperience or retired for their own mental and physical health. Themyscira is completely closed off after it initially offered aid in the months following the disaster, but then some nations sought to take Themyscira's resources by force.

Diana selflessly chooses to return to man's world as "Wonder Woman" in the hope of making the world a better place, but she's met with resentment for many reasons - being the sole survivor, now being "old" because she has aged, being seen as someone who abandoned mankind in their hour of need, etc. Diana is all alone in the new man's world as her prior allies are all dead. Those in power do not trust her, believing that she's simply returned as Themyscira's champion to forcibly take resources for her island home. Diana must overcome a lot to once again serve as a source of inspiration for humanity - it's a humbling experience for the Princess of the Amazons, but she rises to the occasion and makes new friends, loves and enemies along the way.
