Not crazy she seems to be the protagonist here, isn't she supposed to be the villain (super theif!)?
They may be making her like lupin the 3rd or kaito kid/ phantom thief kid from detective conan.

Both are thiefs but not really all full bad guys and have done good.

Probably more informed by the the actual gentleman thief Arsène Lupin created by Maurice Leblanc, not the anime knockoff descendent.
And visually pulp characters like The Shadow, and of course Señorita Rio (Rita Farrar aka Consuela Maria Ascencion De Las Vegas, aka simply Consuela De Las Vegas)

The anime lupin is the great grandson of the one from the book in fact the book lupin has been in the show in flashbacks.

    ^ yeah, no kidding.

Netfix now shows this image on their menu.

Anyone familiar with the implied villains?
    A reference to anyone from V.I.L.E. ?

And obviously St.Petersburg red square on the right, assuming it's not made up anyone place the monument on the left?
    Doesn't read as the Louvre?
    Museum Natural History NY?
    Vatican City Museum?

Also this tech-sphere seems like it's going to play a significant role. Any precedence for it in any of the games or cartoon?

You called the anime a knock-off but it's not. Sorry if a misunderstood you. Didn't mean to.

Anyone familiar with the implied villains?
Were they a reference to anyone from V.I.L.E. ?
Only vile I know is from this game.

Also not a fan of the girl being chubby if that's the same girl. Why not just keep her as she was? She is a spy and needs to jump and do other spy things. Wouldn't she be in shape? If she's a new girl then it's fine. Maybe she is a hacker?

There's another character who's the hacker, played by Finn Wolfhard.

Unless the anime LupinIII descendant character was created by Maurice Leblanc, or sanctioned, endorsed by him or estate etc. (which he wasn't) Yeah it's pretty much a modern knock-off character.
Granted the original is now public domain, so it's all good and fair, still a knock-off.
Anyway point was if anything the Gentleman Thief now Lady Thief character topic of the thread, was likely more informed by the the actual gentleman Arsène Lupin created by Maurice Leblanc, the original, rather than the derivative version you indicate.

    Will Rockapella be featured?
"I should describe my known nature as tripartite, my interests consisting of three parallel and disassociated groups; a) love of the strange and the fantastic, b) love of abstract truth and scientific logic, c) love of the ancient and the permanent. Sundry combinations of these strains will probably account for my...odd tastes, and eccentricities."

I'm definitely looking forward to checking this show out. Not sure if I'll like it, but I'll give anything involving Carmen Sandiego a shot.

I hope that it does well at least because I'd love more Carmen Sandiego merch.

    This looks surprisingly terrific!
Looks like they will have fun with peoples perception of her as antagonist / anti-hero
She's obviously allot younger in this take, yet there is a maturity to her character so it works.
And the heavily stylized animation and look is a huge departure, although that seems to be the trend.
It helps that I like her look, and the aesthetic of it. all. Really fun!
And looks like she has her gadgets!:yay:

this is a reinvention of the character. Seems like it will probably do well.

I think I prefer the original incarnation at this point but I'm not mad at the change. Will see how it goes.

My only true gripe is the music was better int he 90s cartoon

The trailer looks great! I think Gina Rodriguez fits this younger version of Carmen. It kinda reminds me of the non-high school parts of Kim Possible. It's not a 1:1 comparison, but it's what I thought of.

I do think I'd rather have Carmen as more of a villain (also Rita Moreno voicing Carmen in WoEiCS was the best imo). I'll see how this goes.
