Thanks again for these articles. I'd like to see these themes touched in the exhibition ("race, immigration, sexism, gender and human frailty") being explored in a Vertigo-type of book (or Black Label type?) featuring SM/WW.

Oh would be a dream come true! Black label if it wasn’t in the limbo it’s in would be perfect because the creative team would actually have creative freedom and be able to really dig deep within these themes.

Maybe it's an effect of DC recent reshuffle.

Maybe yes, maybe not ... but I still credit this mess that DC lives and the low sales to Rebirth and the promises made and not fulfilled. DC promised a return to the origins but in fact delivered stories without base and connection with the fans. While New 52 started from zero, it created a base and brought in new fans. Rebirth turned away the old and traditionalist fans the same way turned away the new ones, eager for novelties and dynamism. I read this week that some resellers complained that even the oldest fans started to drop the books.

Well, comics are a dying medium. The New52 reboot/relaunch was an opportunity to expand the readership but they screwed it pretty fast.

New 52 was flawed but did bring a lot of creativity and diversity. The expectation of keeping that going and thinking more and more outside the box was too much. It’s easier going “basic” and staying in a comfort zone. It’s also the mentality of writers set in their own ways of what they think you should like/love and accept. But that still isn’t quite working out even now and even in a shorter time than new52

Usually DC goes in cycles. Some concepts or the experimentation from that era will eventually make its return someday.
