Marvel's SM/WW blatant rip-offs, Hyperion/Power Princess, made their return recently along with their JL-inspired team. I don't know which version of the Squadron Supreme is ("D.C.'s greatest heroes", lol), or what's going on with them (brainwashing?) because it hasn't yet been revealed in the story.

Btw, below some panels from The Avengers #18 (April 2019) written by Jason Aaron and drawn by former Superman artist Ed McGuinness (the Hyperion/Power Princess' relationship is referenced in the 2nd and 3rd page shared):

Wow! That’s really in your face direct rip off with Power Princess design is like New52 Wonder Woman and Hyperion has New52 Superman’s persona in a way.

I appreciate their very open relationship of course 🤗

The last page seems like shade thrown of how the real Superman and Wonder Woman is perceived as American heroes or something. 🤔

Well, I didn't mean that they need 3 solo films for the audience care and being attached to the characters, they need a trilogy to close their solo journey before staring another together. Let Diana's period piece adventures finish before moving the character in another direction, no?

Well yeah I know that. It still would’ve been better than how it has ended up. Competing, rushing trying to catch up to 10+ years was part of the problem, but it was also not respecting truly the history and dynamics. The characters themselves, just because of who they are didn’t mean the audience would automatically care. It had to be earned. MCU leveled up characters who were deemed as b, c, even d list characters to inspirational household names.
Different approaches: valuing the characters over the story instead of the story over characters.

    Love love this.

It's funny even with all the flirting with BM...Diana had better moments with Superman (as limited as they were) in the sense they were deeper. Be it Paradise Lost, Hereafter, Doomsday Sanction, Dead Reckoning etc. They actually talked about other things and showed vulnerabilities, had each other's back etc. The very things we look at when we want good development between characters and what these two were always about. I think we have to thank Dwayne Mcduffie for some of these moments and he even continued with this when he did his run.

Glad they look good together and that their designs are new 52 inspired, also with these characters shared history as well (a tongue in cheek commentary on the SM/WW shared history that unfortunately gets ignored by DC), much better then what they did with hyperion of a different earth just recently I feel.

Hopefully the story won't devolve into a criticism against the Zack Snyder, not that it isn't deserved just that I hope we can see more from these characters and possibly how they deal with the conditioning (and maybe growth in their relationship too). But yeah i think i'll check the next few issues out.

Yeah, Power Princess' design is reminiscent of NuDiana. On the other hand, Hyperion never really gave me any Superman-vibe for his aesthetic, but his backstory is pretty much a carbon copy of Kal-El's.

I appreciate their very open relationship of course 🤗

    @LastSon
I find hard to understand the rationale behind Miller getting push back from using Diana in Year One and at the same time getting greenlighted the book about the children of SM/WW he talked about in an European convention some time ago.
DC needs to give Diana more respect end of the day. The fact is she is used in numerous stories with Superman and in several situations as his partner and mother of his children and DC has the effrontery to push back on her...no matter the format...be it as friend or ally or lover...to minimize her...it is disrespectful. She is not some throw away character or just a womb. She is the mother of heroes as Superman is the father. She makes tons of money for DC in merchandising and her movie helped saved WB face. You can't come create a whole comic about her and Superman's children and yet refuse to allow the writer page time to even have her introduced to Superman in earlier sequence even if it is a few panels or allow us to see them interact in some manner somewhere before they hooked up if it is indeed linked to DK verse. If they can have Batman, then they can have her and I recall reading somewhere Miller said Bats might make an appearance, however brief, as it is a cast of many.

Hello my friends!!! Finally is Sunday!!!

I don’t know why WW has to go through period pieces anyway...She should’ve been set in modern time from jump.

But anyway...sure trilogy first if it’s better and has to be necessary and within the solos as I said establish in the background the build up to the team ups. It’s not that hard. As if they followed comic history, it’s easy to do.

Different approaches: valuing the characters over the story instead of the story over characters.
I don’t think they valued neither trying to change the characters to what they weren’t and the story didn’t fit them.

If given the multiverse, this can be achieved with SMWW too

True but it’s sad that the rip offs are doing better than the originals 😱

Do you refer to the "original" Hyperion that died some years ago before his Power Princess jumped into another reality?

I doubt the story will go there but if the Squadron will ever get adapted to the big screen one day, I can see it ending up parodying some aspects of the DCEU.

Btw, I'll eventually update about further references to the Hyperion/Power Princess' relationship in the Avengers book.

From my understanding, it'll be in the last issue that we'll see Clark starting his superhero career as Superman and meet other heroes like Diana (hopefully) but if she'll be there she won't be just like a superhero peer but as love interest too.

Previously, Miller said the opposide about YO being tied to the DKverse. I guess the book was supposed to be different things in different points of its development and during the 6/7 months of delay since its original release date. 🤔

I believe so yes that seems to be the gold standard as I believe other incarnations have had relationships as well.

How would they fit in that both hyperions and nighthawk both have mothers called Martha? But seriously it seems to be criticism that was just aimed at another Snyder it seems. Lol and I saw people stretching that it was a criticism for the new 52 that finished 3 years ago now.

Thanks, I hope the art stays the same because they do look damn good in those shots, makes me wish that ed mcguinness could have done some art for the sm/ww book.

Yeah, various versions of "Marvel's SM/WW" were romantically linked starting with the early 80s.

How would they fit in that both hyperions and nighthawk both have mothers called Martha?
I can already imagining Marvel doing it just for the lulz. 😂

Agreed, he would have been a good fit for the SM/WW series or the JL book.
