At least he would have a presence and the subsequent redemption story worked well in the comics, so it could work well in the movies too.
Maybe the Arrow-verse will correct the egregious error of the original "Crisis" and actually have Hal pop up! (even a cameo would be better than what Hal got in the comic)
Just saw Captain Marvel. At least one pilot was done right in a superhero movie.

If you take a look at the panel Hal actually did not touch his beer. The pitcher was full. Priest, who wrote the script of the first issue, emphasized that in his novel when he rewrote that plot. Hal didn't drink. That's why he was driving while everyone else was drunk. And that's why Hal claimed himself innocent all along.
BTW, Highball came from Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier, corresponding to Martin's callsign "Flying Martini".
