Part of me thinks Hal could run the danger of going the Sinestro route. I think it would have been great seeing Hal protect marchers, halt would-be assassination attempts, protect voters, be visible during school integration, etc. I think Hal should stop the violence and intimidation associated with racism. I'm not sure Hals should be trying to stop the institutionalization of racism. That is a job for humanity. If Hal went any further, he'd be Sinestro, imo.

Given his power, Hal is in the same boat as Superman: protect humanity...lead by example....but allow humans to peacefully figure things out for themselves.

This is why Parallax was such a missed opportunity for DC. Exploring the idea of Hal crossing the line could have been fascinating if it hadn't been handled so ham-fistedly. Rather than have Hal chopping hands off and killing his friends, they should have kept him in the moral gray area of trying to resurrect Coast City with his ring, and snapping Sinestro's neck in the middle of a life or death battle. It would have been so much more interesting for readers to see Hal try to tackle larger societal problems like racial injustice, environmental collapse and all the other issues he and Ollie explored during the Hard Travelling Heroes era, but with the uneasy feeling that Hal was going too far and needed to be stopped, just like Sinestro. Parallax without the mustache-twirling could have been amazing.

I like to think one of his offspring or grandkids became successful, and he's living comfortably.

As soon as I found success, I got my mom off public assistance.

I actually liked Sinestro in the film as well. He was probably the only good thing about the film.
