Yeah, and now that I think about it, Liam's point in the interview about who he sees as Hal's "real" true love does make sense. That was the main reason things between him and Carol never worked out over the years.

I haven't read the article, but this is reminding me of that episode of "Star Trek" where Kirk revealed his one true love was the ship.
