It's probably because his take on Magneto is well liked.

Haha, notice he sees Magneto as a hero. Why is that?

Because back in the 80's when Emma was a New Mutants villain, Magneto was leading the X-Men. I see a pattern here.

Emma should be a villain because that was what she was in the 80's. Magneto should be a morally grey anti-hero and ally of the X-Men, oh right because that was what he was in the 80's.

It's so predictable, Emma's story never gets past the 80's, none of these writers have read anything about Emma in the 90's. They never read about the Hellions being killed, they certainly didn't read the Phalanx Covenant, they didn't read New X-Men. It's just 80's Clarement > skip forward in time > IvX and that's what matters.

Better a villain Emma than the bleach blond porn star Morrison and Whedon tried to turn into. The White Queen was CEO of a Fortune 500 company in addition to being the White Queen of the Hellfire Club. She was a powerful, brilliant woman, not Cyclios trophy babe.

So finally writers realized this and have her leading the Hellfire Trading Company, having a seat on Krakoa’s council, doing diplomacy for Krakoa.

Emma is not a school teacher with money. She was Headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy. Headmistress is basically the principal. That was something she did on the side, as she was CEO of Frost Electronics and White Queen of the Hellfire Club.

This current depiction of her is accurate to her character.

Emma encouraged Scott to take proactive action and make bold moves. She never trusted Magneto, but she understood how he was an asset to Scott so she kept her doubts to her private discussions with Scott but otherwise backed his play when it came to Magneto. Emma had doubts about X-Force when she found out about, but she kept those doubts to her private discussions with Scott.

Emma seems like she is in the background, when in actual fact she is just a really good 1st Officer, who knows you never question the leader in public.
Emma doesn’t need Scott to be a leader. He actually ranks lower than her in Krakoa. She’s on the council, she’s the chief diplomat, she’s the CEO of Hellfire Trading Company.

During those years she was presented as co-headmistress of the Xavier Institute, and co-leader with Scott. So not a bimbo porn star, however, she was most certainly drawn that way by the artists. I do agree that the artists seemed to be really into over-sexualizing her uniforms.

I like polished and professional Emma, because Emma Frost going to business meetings and teaching at school, she isn't going to wear such revealing outfits. So far she has been looking fashionable and polished. Sure she is sexy, but to me she just looks posh! This is the way she dressed in Generation X, she was always polished and professional, and a little intimidating because she always looked like a principle, teacher, or business woman you just didn't want to mess with.

I was talking about the Institute and Utopia years, not current. During those years Emma and Scott co-lead together.

Right now, Emma is back in charge of her company and the Hellfire Corporation/Club. She is also a member of the council, and Secretary of State for Krakoa.

My concern wasn't for how Emma is now, it's for the writers who want to find ways to make her a villain again and ignore Emma's growth and depth as a character. Some writers would like nothing better than to make Emma a generic X-Men Villain from the 70's again, because they stopped reading/collecting comics long before Generation X even came out.

Hard disagree on this take. Her cheerleading got back around Fraction's run, but that's about it.

OT: Bunn's interview feels gross as an Emma fan.

Bunn wants Magneto to be a villain and all of his Magneto stories were working with the status quo but pushing the violence so he could be a villain again, and then the moment he was finished the next big Magneto stuff came from Hickman.

Bunn clearly loves his 1979 status quo.

No one has made Emma a villain again. No depiction of her. Even IvX. If it hadn't have been her using Alchemy to destroy the first cloud, and her assembling mutant leaders to war with the Inhumans on the second cloud mutants would be dead or not living on Earth. She ended up undoing the Scarlet Witch's reversal of Havok. Yes, she has made some questionably decisions, but this is the woman who killed her sister in Generation X, in part to protect her students.

I can see a perspective on this, but I disagree.

IvX saw Emma using sentinels (something she hates and fears) to try and murder everyone on the battlefield because otherwise Medusa and Black Bolt would get off scot free for killing Scott. While it is understandable, it is also not a heroic act.

Then Secret Wars had her try and brainwash Tott out of grief.

Tyke if you don't mind him, Tott if you dislike him. I personally thought he was completely insufferable.

Any time people say Tyke I think of my beloved Tike Alicar from X-Statix.
