But any relationship between them is based primarily on a terrible story that introduced a retcon that was absolutely disastrous for Emma's character and made no sense whatsoever, and any smart writer should retcon all that stuff, including Emma being Shaw's abused girlfriend (her being a telepath, that is all very easy), or simply pretend it never existed. That Annual is to Emma almost what Sins Past is to Gwen Stacy, and just bring all that stuff up is very bad for her.
Plus, it's just boring- Namor is the kind of person that jerks off to pictures of himself, and him with Emma would just bring the worst traits in her, not to mention their arrogant, snobbish personas are too smilar- would be like if Scott begun to date Agent Brand or Maria Hill, for example. Not to mention Namor is now a bonafide mass murderer and killed billions of people.
(And of course, Scott treating her badly this last issue is also a fault of the writers, and Rosenberg's run is essentially out of continuity anyway).
Also, as Fluffy said in the Scott tread:
Emma mindwiped and manipulated Scott telepathically for weeks; if Rosenberg's last issue has to count against Scott, why does the 11 other ones don't count against her?

If Scott’s relationship starting with Emma from an affair can bloom into something so cute, a relationship with Namor can become cute, too!
That’s what makes the writing fun.
Because Emma didn't come across as spiteful? She showed genuine concern and his life was in danger?
The moment she found out he was a live she sent wolverine to guard him. She went to see him. And she knew she needed to protect him from Callahan. The concern and love is shown there. Scott shows disdain and spite

She still mindwiped Scott of her existence (which of course was part of the reason he was so depressed- he thought he spent all those years alone, with no one at his side), and manipulated him- none of that really necessary (she could simply tell Scott she couldn't be with him, offer the reason, work WITH him rather than use him). So, from Scott's perspective, she caused him to be absolutely miserable for no reason.
Mind you, I'm not defending Rosenberg at all- his writing, whether by his own choice or by editorial orders, was simply a **** you to Scott and Emma and everyone that loved their characterization in the 21st century; just that it makes zero sense to blame Scott for his stupid characterization, but give Emma a free pass, specially considering he too had extenuating circumstances.
It can't, just the existence of the relationship made Emma lesser because all the writing turned her into an independent, strong woman with agency, into an abusive puppet caught in the war between two alpha males. From Shaw's equal and better to his abused girlfriend . Plus, it makes zero sense why wouldn't Namor just turn to his pal Xavier for help. Like I said, it's almost Emma's Sins Past (made worse because some writers insist on picking up on that).
Also, like I said, they are too similar in attitude.
He always asked her to continue his legacy and not let it end this way which is a huge burden to put on someone's shoulders
If she explained the situation in detail, maybe he would. Scott only went to that rally and cried out for the X-men meeting him because he thought literally everyone was dead. If he knew he had Emma on his side, maybe he would act differently.
He also had Tyke's memories of her coming back to him, all his memories of her returning at once, and he just watched his brother die to save him.
