I'll agree with you on Mystique but not Magneto. He resolved things with Scott when he rejoined. He did with Xavier in Excalibur. He tried to make amends with the X-men, especially Kitty, when he brought her back from space. He also tried to work things out with Teen Jean and the other young O5. He earned the team's trust and remained loyal. Mystique on the other hand, never really cared. I think Emma and Magneto's tenures as X-men has been on a similar level.

I ask because for some people Emma has always been part of the X-men and for others she was an outsider that eventually made a place on the team. (and some still consider her an outsider)
While I saw the original cartoon, Emma there never left much of an impression. Just one of the many foes they were facing and defeated.

My first real encounter with the character was when I was more or less first starting to get into comics. My parents bought me a lot of comics when they went on trips to the US (Venezuelan here) and they knew I liked the X-Men cartoon so they generally got me those when they could. One time, I picked one issue of Generation X on a trip and it was the issue where Emma kicks Leech in the face to save them both. I was baffled and in love. Cause though the concept of anti heroes existed I never got it till that moment and I never got to see it in a girl before. After I got my hands on her past stuff with the new mutants I loved her even more cause I am a sucker for redemption arcs (Tis why Mags and Rogue are also in my top five)

For me, Emma is a good antagonistic element within the X-Men. Not to say she doesn't belong, I think both Morrison and Whedon cemented her into the team, if people don't want to count her Generation X arc (and most sadly don't), but she's more interesting when she's still doing things her own way on a team, and let's face it, she will say and do what most people on the team think but won't, so I will always consider her part of the X-Men.

And Emma herself seems to herself, since even when she's not officially on the team her outfits still bare the X.

I took an odd route to being an Emma fan.

Since comic book stores were dying by the truckload in the 90s, I didn't get to read comics very often. So I lived with the TAS and a little bit of Evolution. I didn't REALLY like Evolution, but it was watchable (I feel the same way about Ben 10). But I really liked the Evolution character X-23. These were all re-runs by this point, but still. So I grabbed a comic that had X-23 in it. It happened to be the one where Emma annihilates Kimura for attacking Laura. So I got interested in her stuff, since I only knew her from TAS. I liked what I read, especially the Gen X stuff, and here we are.

My first introduction to Emma was the X-men Arcade game which was based off of the Pryde of the X-men pilot. It was hard to get an impression of her from those though. The first comic I read with her in it was the From the Ashes TPB but she was comatose, having something to due with the Phoenix, which I was very interested in at the time. Didnt quite get those issues but I did start collecting Generation X and grew to like her. She'd be in some X-men issues Id find and I saw more of her there. I have to say I hated wheat Morrison did with her and didnt like the character during the Whedon era too. I probably softened up to her by the time Gillen came on board. I actually like where she's at now. I dont think she should be an X-man as she's outgrown it but think she works fine on the periphery doing her own thing, while still affiliated with mutant issues which may or may not intersect with the X-men

OMG, Emma looks like a rock star with her entourage! That's a pretty awesome appearance for her, is that from the HoX coming out today? It's probably a short appearance but I love it!

She had some pretty decent interactions with the three living ones in Bendis' run too.

Very excited for Emma's mixtape with the Playboi Carti feature, seeing as he only speaks Krakoan already.
