Yeah, it's more that Emma is just willing to use methods the X-Men doesn't approve of.

I honestly give her a pass during the war with the Inhumans because seriously who wouldn't go a little crazy watching their boyfriend and a bunch of kids get killed by mist that was unleashed by the Inhumans on the entire planet. When I read that series the Inhumans just come across as complete genocidal assholes. But they were like that too during War of Kings, during War of Kings Crystal was the only one who was remotely sympathetic toward the Kree people.

What Emma did to the Inhumans was wrong, but between being Inhumans and not directly seeing any dying , it is easy to forgive her. Luckily all the following writers did not get to use that ridiculous suit.

yeah Marvel was desperately trying to make the Inhumans look good at the expense of the X-Men. But because the Inhumans as characters are always super arrogant it was really really hard to make them even look vaguely sympathetic when they released a gas cloud that benefits the Inhumans but triggers a genocide on the mutants as a trade off.

The sad part is that without the "Inhumans are the new mutants" push, we probably would have gotten Hickman in the X-men 4 years earlier, not to mention Matt Fraction's take on the Inhumans (we don't know exactly what would be, but reports said it would have a GoT inspiration) which could actually have helped them gain popularity.

Emma left the X-Men as a result. She was the general of mutantkind for the war, but she when Medusa surrendered to end the war she realized that Black Bolt and Medusa would get off for free for killing Scott, so she retaliated and tried to kill them all.
