"We live in a world of cowards. We live in a world full of small minds who are afraid. We are ruled by those who refuse to risk anything of their own. Who guard their over bloated paucities of power with money. With false reasoning. With measured hesitance. With prideful, recalcitrant inaction. With hateful invective. With weapons. F@#K these selfish fools and their prevailing world order." Tony Stark
i think i've mentioned this earlier in the thread but tony kept evolving from a man in a metal suit, to the extremis connecting him to the suit, to the bleeding edge making him the suit through nanotech
I liked an AI version of him, or rather his consciousness in AI form would've been a good arc to have this "am I really me? Am I really human" atleast conceptually.

I don't blind date I make the direct market vibrate
Well there's been at least three A.I Tony Stark over the years that I can remember.
Hypervelocity had an A.I
Superior Iron man had one
And of course the Riri A.I
It's been more than awhile since Hypervelocity but the Superior Iron man A.I had a weird take on it since he was created for if Tony ever went rogue. He knew he wasn't the original Tony (and frankly none of them have been since the 90's) and so he didn't view himself so much as Tony so much as he'd been a necessary evil. He was going to certainly act like Tony Stark and he knew Tony's history up to a point, but he didn't recognize Tony's work nor did he recognize Tony at that point. The Superior A.I was basically working off outdated information and was just as much Tony Stark if not more than Tony Stark was at the time. So in the end it didn't matter to him. He's at the same time his own man and Tony Stark so it's a weird take, but one I felt tackled the issue.
Edit: Superior the A.I isn't the main character (depending on how you look at it) but I believe Hypervelocity has the A.I as the lead.

not really. but he is now.
he had his existing DNA upgraded by Extremis (which had a great impact on him emotionally). that's not anywhere near the same thing. as he is right now, he's in the same position as a Life Model Decoy. he's not Amanda Armstrong's child given the ability to interface with technology.
that's a weird thing to say. questions over his parentage and humanity have been part of the story since Gillen (and the aforementioned extremis stuff). why wouldn't it matter? he's long been the self-made hero. he's the guy who wasn't a science freak or an accident. it might not matter to readers. it doesn't matter to me. but, logically, it would have an affect on the character.
he was? news to me. teen tony was just a younger version of tony. same dna. extremis tony is just regular tony with an upgrade. the armor was stored in his bones. it was his flesh healing.
maybe you're more of a doom fan than a stark fan. Tony is and always has been a bit of a control freak. what's happened to him recently was something unplanned. he will most likely come to terms with it. but it would be out of character for him to just shrug it off; especially with everything else happening to him.
i think his issue right now is that he had a taste of artificial alcohol in a virtual reality world of his own making guarded by evil replica of his parents.
He's also been experimenting on his DNA off-screen for quite some time, hence his regenerating like Doctor Who instead of just dying when Captain Marvel blasted him.
