Interesting analysis by Dennis O'Neil of Tony and his suit in Iron Man #182.

With Tony and Pepper, I've always wondered why Marvel never goes there with them being a couple. I'm not just saying this because of the MCU. Pepper is the one girl that has been there through thick and thin with Tony. Even though there's been occasions where he's treated her unfairly, she still stayed by his side. She loved him from the beginning, even had a thing for him when she was married to Happy Hogan. Then since that moment where they decided to call it off, no romance between them. Instead he's just hopped from bimbo to bimbo. I get that it's part of his nature as a billionaire playboy but come on. Peter Parker by comparison has dated other girls, Felecia Hardy, Gwen Stacey, but Mary Jane is his girl. Tony and Pepper could be one of the great Marvel couples too, if they tried at it.

Because happy healthy strong relationships are a no-no at Marvel

Great introspective work by the great Denny O'Neil. His run was incredible.

They kissed in Busiek's run and laughed about. They even said that whatever romantic feelings they had are long gone and are just great friends. Pepper wasn't there for Tony for a while. Bethany Cabe has been with him through some of his toughest times.

I wouldn't say that Tony has just hopped from bimbo to bimbo. Sure, he's done his share of bed hopping, but he's also had a few significant romances and ongoing relationships along the way.

Exactly. Pepper and Tony are friends only now -- any chance for an actual romance between them died off long ago. I'm actually relieved that the writers haven't tried to force the two of them together due to the success of the Tony/Pepper relationship in the MCU. That worked well for those two characters - I think it was a good move for both of them. But for the comic versions it just wouldn't feel right at this point. They've both moved on.

I really like Rumiko too. Unfortunately not a lot of writers really knew what to do with her, or how to write her properly, after Busiek left the book. Too many of them tended to forget that the "spoiled rich girl" routine was an act and that she was a lot stronger and more mature than people tended to assume (a lot like Janet Van Dyne, in a way).

I like Beth Cabe a lot too--but more as a friend and colleague. I wouldn't really want to see her and Tony resume a romance.

Rumiko and Jan are best girls. I don't make the rules. I'll always like Cabe and Pep around as Tony's homies, though. I'm excited for Pep to actually come back to the books next year, her and Tony patching things up and reforming the Stark Squad is long overdue.

Damn ts:im #18. Tonet (Tony&Jan) is a grower. I wasn’t feeling em in the beginning but I’m liking em now.

And it’s true, Maria looking like Amanda 2.0. I honestly wanted writers to explore Maria and Tony’s maternal family but once again Slott disappoints. Hack writer fr.

Wtf is Arno doin. Leave Tony Alone!!!!

As for the love interest talk here, definitely NOT Pepper. Tony and Pepper were never “in love”. Tony and Pepper were portrayed as friends who kind of maybe had some feelings but once they kissed there were no sparks or fireworks. They are just friends.

Now, they did sleep together and one user even pointed out that consent was in question Becuz Tony was in the process of deleting his brain aka amnesic so he couldn’t consent. Pepper and Tony is a no no.

I used to like Ru but she cheated on Tony with his ex-boyfriend so that ain’t it.

Bethany is the one for Tony. She was there when he needed someone, lift him up and was a great emotional support but Slott didn’t do his homework, a lot of writers forget how deep their relationship was but whatevs

Maybe marvel should introduce a new love interest.

Rumiko and he were on a break at the time, so it wasn't cheating. It was also later implied to be caused by lingering effects of that drug they'd been infected with in an earlier story. So she has two layers of mitigation on that subject.

I don’t remember the drug effect reason that’s an excuse.

BUT even if they were on a break, she went for his ex-bf and that’s not ok.

Such a lovely list. I haven't read majority of 90s Marvel comics, something I need to correct with Iron Man.

There is one question I have about the Hulkbuster though; Tony built it during the Professor Hulk phase, why?
