I refuse to read anything else by Chip Zdarsky, and the cover of that issue lets me know that's a good decision. He's on a roll of character assassination and/or shitty writing of Tony to prop up Steve in this book and that Spider-Man series he's on. (Judging by the July solicit for that, Tony will also appear, so Zdarsky has him continuing to play the role of villain in two of his books.)

Anyway, sorry I haven't been around much. Just trying to avoid boards and social media until Endgame comes out. I'll share more after I see it, so I no longer risk the chance of spoilers when I'm looking for art, etc.
If you're talking about Spider-Man: Life Story, it's an alt reality for one and, secondly, Tony's barely even in it.
He's referenced but I can't even recall any actual dialogue from him. If there's anything, it's like, one line maybe. And even then, he's not even close to being portrayed as a villain. He's defending the USA's role in Vietnam. That hardly makes Tony "villainous." You might as well say Dzarsky is out to make Cap look "traitorous." They're taking opposite sides of a historic conflict but neither is shown to be wrong or having ill intent and it's only a background matter and not a part of the main story.
In what world does that even begin to constitute being on a "roll of character assasination" towards Tony?
...he was implied to be a glory hog out killing civilians, who then had to be protected by Captain America, in the first issue. Saying neither one is shown to be "wrong" is completely false when Cap is literally described as being the only "sane superhero" who is "saving lives on both sides." Now we see the July solicit, this series' "Civil War," where a superhero will be dead. Hmm, guess who?
There's been plenty of complaints about Tony's depiction in the series and its ignoring of existing comic history, and in the Invaders. But I have no desire to argue with someone about a comic writer's shitty work in an appreciation thread.

The Invaders portrayal is the worst, imo. He's portrayed as a warmonger, which flies in the face of Stark's entire progression into a hero. It's the equivalent of portraying Spider-Man as a narcissistic fame-whore because that's what Peter Parker was at the beginning of his first character-arc into a hero.
