Yes it's actually a really cool statement. T'Challa works the best when he isn't fully trusting other heroes. When he acts more like a King and not a superhero. I love both versions but your see the real always prepared, 2 steps ahead Panther that shows why he is so dangerous. How he is Doctor Doom and Cap mixed in one
Again, your ignoring the whole inoperable Brain aneurysm that as it was said, unbelievable that he was even moving let alone fighting as he was in constant sheer pain. And he used present day T'Challa prep plan to fight Stark. He didn't come in with future plans, and it was never stated anywhere that his telepathy was ever used in combat.
No one is even bagging on Stark, it's just when it comes to T'Challa, his record Currently shows that he shouldn't fight T'Challa because he gets out prepped. He isn't designed to fight a warrior like T'Challa who can match his armor with his superior tech
It's not much an asterisk as far as pure wins and loses go. But if we're approaching the question from whether or not T'Challa demonstrates superior armor or superior tech over Stark (which is sort of how this entire line of conversation began), then using the ebony blade is a legit asterisk.
Still, that sword was handy. I almost wonder if he regrets giving it back to Dane since that sort in theory would have been the perfect weapon against Doom because of it's ability to deflect magic. It's probably why Hudlin had him surrender the sword when he did.
T'Challa ain't the GOAT BP bc of glass half empty reasons
BP's ownage of Ironman dont count bc of glass half empty reasons
BP is a megalomaniacal supervillain
This place got busy in the last.. 10 hours?
Are we going to segue into him being a shitty husband too? Or we saving that for Valentine's day? This is exciting stuff

Don't you know rumble? Any time T'Challa wins against heroes we will hear a mountain of excuses, but if another heroes wins against T'Challa? "Well it's *insert hero here*, of course they would win!"
Fact is, Tony get wrecked doesn't matter the asterisks, we have showings of Tony losing to T'Challa, where are the showings of Tony beating T'Challa "cleanly"? Or with asterisks?? But we will ignore that and instead try and discredit T'Challas wins anyway possible

Truthfully hero vs hero fights often do have asterisks. Heroes are a bit more protected than most (though not all) villains, so asterisks often find their way into fights when you don't necessarily want one person to look bad even if you need a winner. Plus, heroes inherently usually hold back against each other anyways if you want a less meta explanation.
But ultimately a win is a win. Similar to say Killmonger beating T'Challa. Plenty of asteriske there too (because again T'Challa is the hero so you don't want him looking bad even if he loses), but a win or a loss with an asterisk is still a win or a loss. Asterisks just sort of soften the blow a little.
Actually, from a purely tactical standpoint, stuff like the Ebony Blade shouldn't count as "asterisks"... because T'Challa CHOSE to wield it.
In other words, it was part of his plan. Calling it "unfair" because it isn't part of his usual loadout suggests that one should only think of T'Challa's abilities in terms of what he has (and maybe what he can do) and not what he can think up.
In other words "Prep time is fine... as long as it's predictable!"
Then again, you guys know that I lack a "Rumbles board" mentality. I'm more interested in character arcs than feats….

Again, I think the conversation started because people were comparing their armor. Should T'Challa have suprior armor and tech. From that perspective, an asterisk is somewhat fair because he didn't actually win due to having superior armor or tech. He won with the ebony blade. It definately counts as a win, and he certainly deserves props from being prepared for the fight... but from the standpoint of comparing their armor (which is what the conversation at least started with), that particular fight doesn't go a long way towards demonstrating the point.
But I do think in a general sense it shows why T'Challa usually (probably always unless I'm forgetting something) beating T'CHalla when he needs to. He's a better prep guy that Stark. Stark is good... but he doesn't quite think outside of the box as well as T'Challa. Really, Stark is the most predictable prep guy in comics... he just builds a suit of armor to fight whatever he's fighting. Of all the comic book smart guys he might be the biggest one trick pony.
