They said they were going to uncage the lion... then Morlun showed up. We can MAYBE not interpret that literally. Maybe they just wanted to summon Morlun first, and uncage the lion AFTER Morlun does his thing. But it's not terribly clear if that's the case.

Again, maybe Hudlin was intentionally being unclear so if later writers didn't want to follow suit, it can easily be ignored. The picture on the floor where the Lion Cult sort of looked like Morlun. Or at least more like Morlun than it did Hathor.

Dropping Black Panther. Nothing much is happening and a pain when it comes to continuity in the greater marvel universe.

IMHO, Dude has a talent for taking potentially fun ideas and borifying them as much as possible.

Without Acuna art, I'm basically following just because it's Black Panther.

Even with acuna, all we got was Tchalla smacking on goons for 6 issues or so without any plot development. Coates seriously wastes the talent that are on the BP book. I don't know how his Cap book is doing but he should leave BP and let someone who actually cares get on with that talent he has with him

I think it'll just be a good image if it was shot there. I'm not sure about doing Wakanda there since they've got that covered with principle photography and sets, but it'll still be great.

    - Largely keep the same production crew from the first movie, but I am open to changing the fight coordinator. According to Chadwick Boseman's trainer, Marrese Crump, Chadwick is capable of a whole lot more as a martial artists than we saw in the movie. Let the beast out. I would like to see more stylish actions scenes with intense performances. Give me stuff like this, this, that twelve minute prison sequence in DD season 3, and this. Undeniably the best fight scenes in BP were the ones that fit Coogler's sensibilities (forest, tribal and casino fights) so I want him to stick to stuff like that. Plus, give me longer takes, dynamic camera movements and angles, and less cutting. I also wouldn't mind if Marrese Crump is the new fight choreography since he had a very good relationship with Chadwick.

    - Keep the CGI replacement models at a minimum. I don't really see the point of creating a suit that's clearly practical enough for an actor move around in it and is also damn gorgeous, and then replacing it with a damn ugly CGI model. I can understand adding CGI effects on the suit in post, but I have no idea why Marvel still does this practice. Let the craftsmanship of the suit shine through and only replace it when a very impossible stunt needs to be pulled off. No need to replace it when Chadwick is just walking.

    - In relation to the above, let the post production process be given enough time. Late reshoots should not be ordered and really, let Coogler take the time he needs making this movie as your new golden child. Clean up those special effects and edits.

    - The new BP suit should be modelled to be a stealth suit or stealth upgrade. In addition I want it to be established that the suit is a collaboration between T'Challa and Shuri, merging their traditional warrior and futurist ideas into a new suit (to symbolise Wakanda's tradition and futurism merging together). The new suit being a stealth suit, should be fitted with technology that we haven't seen in the MCU before. Camouflage, soundless/sound absorption tech, energy daggers/tech capable of stunning goons, gas grenades etc. High tech spy stuff.

    - I also want to see T'Challa's enhanced senses be emphasised in this film to fit into the covert stuff. That's one disappointment I had in the first movie. T'Challa should use these senses to spy, infiltrate, read people etc.

    - Nakia should bring her spy work heavily to the table so we can see what War Dogs are capable of. I wouldn't mind if she got a costume for spy missions too.

    - Also emphasise T'Challa's training in diplomacy and strategy and the conflict should be a game of chess of sorts.

My ONE fear about Coogler is that maybe he's too accommodating or too nice. He's a genius and by all account a great person. In fairness he did fight to get Morrison, Beachler, Carter, Shawyver(sp) all on BP. However, after the magic he created with Alberti on Creed I wondered why he felt the need to go with Morrison who had no experience shooting fighting scenes. I'm sure she'll be better on the sequel, but in that instance I think he chose friend over who was the best.

I remember press releases saying they'd film in Africa but ultimately they didn't. On the DVD commentary he said the 2nd unit film in Korea not him. Could you imagine Nolan, Tarantino, Cuaron, , etc letting that go down? Imagine asking Spike Lee to make a film about an African king and NOT film in Africa?

Ryan needs to keep his foot on Marvel's neck to ensure that they don't "relax" for the sequel.

Ryan does great by others. I just hope Ryan looks out for Ryan's vision. He needs that Christopher Nolan type pull. He deserves it. Wouldn't hurt to get those Russo Bros resources as well.

I agree T'Challa and Nakia getting married in Black Panther 2 is pretty logical.

Depending on how much liberty they give Coogler, i wouldn't be surprised if BP and Nakia are "expecting" by BP 3... to bring the whole father/son theme full circle.

Then in the comics they'll have the inevitable story where alternate reality BP/Nakia son and alternate reality Tony/Pepper son crash 616 and have a super sons teamup miniseries.

There is a lot more involved in where they film than simply "we want to film here."

politics, taxes, handshake deals, loads of money, probably a healthy dose of corruption.

Anywho, despite the fact Coogler is young, had exactly one big film done before BP and it wasn't cgi 200 million action fest, and still had as much control as he did is a testament that he isn't "too accommodating."

And Marvel controlling the action isn't new at all. they routinely tell directors they will handle that stuff because they have experience with it. Coogler had zero experience with scifi CGI fests. Now he does have more experience with it and will likely get more input over it. There is a reason certain directors won't work with Marvel because they can't handle not having full control.

That is a nice pic. I hope Forence Kasumba gets more screen-time and lines in the upcoming BP/Marvel films. I thought she was awesome as Ayo.
We are the Dora Milaje. We are the daughters of the 18 tribes of Wakanda. We are the teeth of the Panther God. Out of 10,000 years of sweat and bloodshed and battle are we born. We are the women of this ancient land. Deadliest of the species. And our time has come!

That would be epic. Them having a ceremonial wedding, where they can show off all the beautiful Wakandan colors and outfits? That would be boss, as well as sealing the deal and keeping certain characters from getting into the mythos

All of this is spot on, correct.

MARVEL owns these properties. It isn't the same as if you make up your own thing, bring it to market and get to put your personal stamp on it. EVERY director and writer who works on these projects is a hired gun. It doesn't mean you have zero input, far from it, but true control lies in the executive suites. Also, as cited, there's a lot more to choosing and getting a location than just, "Hey, it would be awesome to film there." WAY more complicated than that, and it's not all about money.

Morrison only didn't shoot Creed (she was definitely going to) because she got pregnant. Otherwise she would have done the film.

Also you have to understand that Marvel Studios (like most studios doing big budget IP films) use second unit directors for their action scenes especially. They do it because most (if not all) of their directors have no experience shooting action scenes, especially big action scenes with many moving parts (which is why Marvel also has their own stunt team). But also it is to keep the action sequences largely looking the same as the other MCU films. The 2nd director is also there to imitate the director's style or achieve what the director wants to based on style (yes, most of the Russo bros action scenes are not shot by them).

So really, I don't think Morrison actually shot many of the action scenes in the film. My guess is, she shot the waterfall fights and maybe the casino fight. Maybe the forest fight too. It's no surprise those are the best ones in the film and the most distinct looking ones compared to other MCU films. She definitely didn't shoot the final battle (because it was reshot) and it's typical practice to get a 2nd unit director to direct scenes in another country where production isn't taking place. She obviously shot the rest of the film, and besides she's the one with the Oscar nomination (as much as I don't usually play establishment bias).

Like others have said, Coogler can't just do whatever he wants working with Marvel Studios. At the end of the day they have a proven formula and he worked within it, not outside it. Definitely he's gonna be allowed to do more of his thing, but he just won't be making his own film. Filmmaking is a team effort.

Granted I know Nolan is one director that doesn't use 2nd unit directors, but going by TDK and TDKR, he definitely could have used one lol.

Pretty spot on here. There is a reason the warrior falls fights are some of the best set pieces of the MCU. Same with the casino, the fight is so well shot.

The final fight, while good, didn't have the same feel as those others.
