Some people like being objective and unfiltered. the idea that Marvel just let Coogler do whatever he wanted without influence is proven wrong by the fact that he wasn't even their first choice. Ava was...and when she went to them and gave them all of her ideas of what wakanda should be they let her (a bigger name then Coogler) walk. Marvel clearly had a template that he was allowed to operate within which resulted in the movie we got that everyone (including myself loved). The difference between myself and everyone else is that I recognize the property's value as every other longtime poster here has been talking about how successful a movie would be if it never got the chance. Outstanding job by coogler for the movie produced but as a fan of both the T'Challa and wakanda, however I recognize that improvements can be made on the character of T'Challa (especially). There are a lot of talented black directors out there that I've never had the opportunity Marvel presented Coogler. So I'm not going to sit here and act like he owns the franchise and was the only person on Earth capable of directing a quality movie.

Nah, yall just miserable and get off on being extra with ya forced contrarian ish while calling it 'objective'. I'm unfiltered and I call yall miserable, objectively. It ain't like everyone is saying the movie is 'perfect' we just roll our eyes when mfers act like TDK or Logan is some perfection Coogler gotta 'achieve'.
Ava was Marvel's first choice and let her walk bc her vision wasn't in their vision. Coogler's was. Yet Ava and Coogler having to be "restricted" to the same pg-13 marvel film that the past 18 films had to subscribe to is some triggerable offense? LMAO. The difference is I'm practical about an MCU film and idk if I'd FUCK with Ava's unhinged vision or Coogler's, just like there are parts of Priest and Hudlin's stuff I dont fukk with. Some of us just have 'perspective' esp after Coates that a lil creative moderation can be a good thing.

Just re-watched the movie during my rewatch for end game. Few things...
- Fighting style of nigeria + tchalla in the casino is perfect. Casino was much more "to the point take them out" than I remembered. I liked it.
- The fear in Shuri's face when M'baku got in her face was great acting. Shuri doesn't want any of the "crown" smoke. At all. Which means the "make shuri queen!" stuff is either utterly ridiculous or she is going to have to go through a hell of an arc the next two movies.
- T'chaka's line about teaching T'challa to be king his whole life makes me think as first born, he was always the heir, and Shuri never had a chance. Or simply, by the time was of age, T'challa was already black panther and being prepared for the throne.
- "snap out of it brother" during the ritual fight with Killmonger. I missed Shuri saying that initially. Gives more credence to the fact t'challa wasn't himself that fight.
- Okoye did not salute Killmonger when he won. Everyone else did. Okoye stood defiant.
- Okoye and Nakia scene right after is vastly overlooked. Prime acting there.
- Bast was mentioned waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than I mentioned. Makes me wonder if Coogler would ever pull on that thread more. Especially with M'baku's insistence on Hanuman and the focus on the gorilla face in the mountains.
- after watching so many of the mcu movies in a short period of time... a lot of the "faults" like the cgi isn't nearly as apparent. It is abotu the same as most of them (at least bluray version which was improved). The final fight is about as long as other final boss fights, or at least felt that way. I thin the choreography was fine, it was chopping it up that made it weird, and the suits made it hard to see "damage"
- Killmonger got tagged A LOT by the DM and nakia, a lot for a peak human vs humans.
- GOAT superhero movie
- I think M'baku might be the strongest non-powered character in the mcu...

I would also add this tidbit. I'm glad that Ava walked. Frankly? A wrinkle in time was not impressive and after Coates? I don't think directors need to have full unabated control. AoU and guardians also speak for this too.
Finally like you said, we ain't acting like Cooglers version was perfect or could only be achieved by him.. but being 100% honest? I doubt very many other directors could of replicated such a commercial, social, and cultural success that Coogler did that Also broke all the records and ceilings that it did, and achieve thing's literally no other super hero movie, not TDK, not Logan, not even infinity war, a 10 year movie in the making, could achieve.
And while it shows the potential of BPs world, it also had to take someone who could properly realize said world and make something out of it. Not squander it with their lack of imagination ( like current Bp writer)
Finally got the pic I was looking for. Tech out of knowhere. Lol.
Nobody but Coogler could've pulled off the Pan Africanism Afrofuturism feel of BP..

I wouldn't go that far. But I do think they see the success of the Black Panther movie as a combination of factors that don't necessarily translate to success with the same character in a different movie with a different director and entirely different production crew. We still don't know when they're releasing Black Panther 2. My suspicion is they'll move it from February to the summer because of the first movie's success similar to how they moved Guardians of the Galaxy from August to May for the sequel.
To me, the perfect opportunity would have been Infinity War. It's a bit of a shame that they didn't go down that path.

One of some of the reservations I have for the second film especially with the rumours about following the same production the first movie went through.
If it ain't an Avengers movie, then less time will be put in to production. Hopefully that's not the case but if it is, it will be a big shame considering how BP transcended the MCU in terms of box office and being the first mcu movie to win an Oscar
