Yeah, if anything, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby probably later took more inspiration from heroes such as MLJ/Archie's Golden Age hero the Fox, who covered himself in a mostly black costume.

It only makes sense to have him start down the contingency plan route. Thanos just strolled in and snapped him, his sister, and half his people and they couldn't do a thing about it. I expect nothing less
