I am not mad that Storm got a big feat/bad ass moment.

I'm mad that it seems to come at the expense of T'challa getting a bad ass moment.

If Coates wants to give Storm big moments... cool! I don' hate Storm lol.

But make sure the title character is getting big moments too. If you want to showcase the "power couple..." they both need to do stuff. It can't just be T'challa pointing and Storm acting like an attack dog.

The New Fantastic Four was able to find that balance.

And if this story "doesn't fit T'challa's skillset"... then this isn't a story that should be in a Black Panther solo book.

Coates tried the "kingly delegater route" but he doesn't have T'challa's voice down or Priest's writing ability so it just comes across as "tchalla sits back and does nothing."

I disagree with the idea that she bails him out all the time. There are many moving pieces on the board. Imo he's shown as having quite a few fail safes in place. Don't get me started on the AoW lineup. That team should've been Crew with 3 or 4 more stacked Wakandans thrown in.

I felt this post like nothing else you've said. I can understand wanting the more McDuffie side of BP to show up. I personally agree. I liked his affinity for science and mathematical equations while in space. I liked that he showed himself as the warrior always on guard. I think the kingly delegater route works for him. I see it. I like it. The two women vying for his attention see it and are both willing to sit on his face. I could totally use more gadgets and upgrades for him. I just don't think this is a man to be slept on is all. He has major BDE for me.

I actually think the AoW line up makes sense. If you had Wakandans making up most of the team, it would be obvious who they’re working for. But a Space Werewolf? The Wasp? Some Tarzan looking dude who lives in a jungle full of extinct animals? Nobody would ever guess that these people are working for Wakanda’s best interests.

Other characters talk abotu how awesome she is, but they never show her doing anything but shoot lightning at goons and then mope. They even talk about this huuuuuuuge feat of her destroying 1000 enemies with a cool hurricane lightninig goddess power... but never show it. Just some people talking.

In issue 15, some no name character kills the main bad guy they have been teasing for over a year.

In issue 16, Storm leaves her.... ummm homeland to go on a spirtual walk in the deep jungle. During this spiritual walk, a huge invasion happens in her native Kenya, threatening everyone she cares about...

T'challa shows up with Okoye and single handidly takes them all out while the Kenyan people go on and on about how awesome T'challa and the Black Panther must be.

You can't sit here and go, "i'd be happy for T'challa! Great issue!" lol. Y'all Storm fans get pissed off about a TEAM BOOK Storm is in and she gets relegated to background lightning status. This is a SOLO book and its happening to the main character while other characters do all the cool ****.

Now imagine that same story happeing over and over for over 3 years.

That is the state of the Black Panther (notice, BLACK PANTHER, not STORM AND BLACK PANTHER) fans in here.

If I was a Storm fan, hell yeah this issue was awesome. Acuna made her look like a powerhouse.
Bro, we all know the answer to the scenario you've posited here.

Storm fans would be livid which is what makes the current vstate of affairs as obtains within T'Challa's solo book and their responses, all the more hypocritically disingenuous to be brutally honest.

With all due respect, this is the Black Panther Appreciation Thread and as such, Black Panther enthusiasts will comment on how they feel about what's occuring in their favourite characters solo book which has remained one in name only, for three years counting under Coates derisive penmanship.

Besides, there are more than a few posts and comments in this thread revolving around T'Challa's exploits and adventures as portrayed within the Avengers and Agents of Wakanda books respectively.

For myself personally, I would not like for Storm to be overshadowed in her own solo. I would be one unhappy camper. However, that is not MY takeaway from this run on BP. I know many disagree. I know many Storm fans would totally be against the dynamic that MindofShadow has laid out. My interpretation of T'Challa's life and all the people that matter to him coupled with how he juggles their many personalities is something I would absolutely love in a Storm book. T'Challa could take up the same space and operate under the same exact narrative the Ororo does in his solo and I would be head over heels in love with it. They mean something more together. The idea of them. A Storm that's in love with a black man is not blind to the issues that face black people like her. The Storm of the X-Men is blind to issues that affect black mutants like her. Most of her fans champion that Storm because they love the exclusive feel of Storm and the exceptional ****** trope that galavants around the world but doesn't stop home to meet her father's family.

The scenario as you’ve presented it would not be ideal for me personally. But at the same time I have a different interpretation of the events as you and most of the long timers here. We established that a few weeks ago when asked for specific instances of T’Challa displaying exceeding levels of BDE. There aren’t many H2H moments in this run, but there are a great many intellectual BDE moments for me. I’m not making light of your feelings, I’m just expressing why I personally agree and disagree with you. If that makes any sense.

Yes. Many of them are absolutely happy with that. Many don’t care that her voice as a black female who happens to be a mutant has been at largely ignored. They don’t care that she’s a token in the worst way possible. And they’d happily drop the BP books when Coates is no longer using her and she’s reduced back to Kate Pryde’s sidekick.
    Agreed 100%.

If there's anything I dislike more than Coates' depiction of T'Challa and Wakanda, it's when users who are never to be seen here appear just to try and make us feel bad for voicing those grievances because you disagree (and quite frankly, because it favours you).

At minimum for those type of stories, put him in locations where his skills are not sufficient. If he is in Wakanda and its his solo title, all solutions should be Wakandan in origin. Storm was required a at least three times in the second arc, where showcasing Wakandan excellence would have been better.

An example is Bad Mutha when he had Monica fly all through New Orleans spreading solar energy to kill vampires. I don't expect Tchalla to be able to do that with just him, his ship, and two Dora.
