Its more injecting Western racist stereotypes of Africa and Western colonization and slavery into Wakandas history and playing it off like this is supposed to be some deep cerebral thing

“THE INTERGALACTIC EMPIRE OF WAKANDA” WAKANDA UNBOUND part 2
THE DJALIA UNDER ASSAULT – FROM ITS KING?!
To unite the two empires of Wakanda, the Black Panther must destroy a vital piece of his own nation — the plane of all Wakandan memory and home to the griot spirits who have guided him throughout his rule as king. Can he do it? Can T’Challa banish his own father’s spirit? And will the cost be worth the gain?

    Khan-tin-oo-ee-tea? What's that? :P

Seriously, tho, if Coates actually wants people to believe that, it's actually another example of him downplaying T'Challa:

He didn't succeed because of his own nobility or intelligence. It was because of the griots. Just like Wakanda succeeded because of the Orishas.

(Despite the fact that the ancestral spirits have been pretty much useless throughout his entire run.)

Hell, I'm willing to predict that the loss of the Djalia will lead to Wakanda ending its (off-panel) Golden Age, and having to rebuild.

    Again.

Because to Coates, Dysfunction = Drama.

I mean he's taking away everything that makes Wakanda special and replaced it with 1 dimensional plot devices. We know nothing about the Orishas. 40 issues in to his series and we still know NOTHING about them. Yet they are the cause of Wakandas success, protection, and advancement. 'mother' and the griots hold all of Wakandan memories even before they were Wakandan.. the Black Panthers, bashenga, nope none of that matters. The griots have taken over. Abd what do we know about mother? Griots? Nothing. Nothing at all. 40 issues in. Yet they are the key to Wakandas peace?

We went from a hidden advanced warrior nation who has only the strongest and best fit to lead who repelled colonization for 10k+ years through use of their own ingenuity, become relegated to useless colonizers who needed Orishas ™ to save them, protect them and give them knowledge and success?

Wakanda who repelled Thanos twice, super skrulls and Invaders, is almost brought to it's knees by a taichi having dude and his emotion controlling friend and a dozen dudes.. yet they are both stopped by Akili and changamire. Akili literally runs up to tetu and knocks him on his ass... He could of just shot him and been done with it. Then changa beats zenzis power with a shade throwing speech.. then she magically enhances her powers to hulk dudes out and it ends in a long of the rings rip off..

Dude for real If I were the next writer, I would address this entire mess and correct it quickly and bury it away for it to never resurface

The Orisha were entirely absent during Coates run so I really don't think too much credit can be given to them. Again, Shuri pretty much gives all the credit to T'Challa.

Though I agree the golden age will end. Depending on when all this took place it might have already ended.

Speaking of the Orisha, didn't NuKillmonger take over the group when he dropped Bast? They gave him the Wakandan salute and did nothing to help Bast. Plus it looked like he absorbed her powers or at least some of it his line "The master and servant are now one" made it sound like he did.

T'Challa vs the Orisha would've made this story a bit interesting and it would've actually made them matter to the story. Take out the Orisha and nothing from the past 2yrs changes.

You can't create a new character/s, give them the credit for Wakandas success (not just once but throughout the series) then never show them ever.

Without the Orishas ™ Wakanda literally never would of formed because the originator's were kicking their asses. Wakanda is experiencing peace and prosperity better then they have in a long time. "The Orishas ™ are back" Coates can't give T'Challa the credit because he keeps throwing the Orishas ™ around. And even then his reasons don't even add up given what's happened on panel.

Well for one thing, I’d kill off Changamire. Then I’d make T’challa the competent badass warrior king who’s always five steps ahead of his enemies like he’s fucking supposed to be. Then I’d just ignore or retcon all of the dysfunction and tired ass stereotypes that Coates desperately relies on to tell a story. Furthermore I’d have T’Challa defeat threats on his own instead of constantly having his supporting cast get the lions share of feats and character development.

Speaking of which, I’m sorry but Storm has to go back to Krakoa and stay there. When I read a book called Black Panther, dammit I expect him to be the focus of the story not her. Besides, mutants are now in a better place than they’ve ever been before (for now, because this is Hickman we’re talking about). There’s practically no need for Storm in the BP franchise. This is even further compounded by the rest of the MU ignoring Coates BS as we can see from avengers and agents of Wakanda.

Finally, restore Wakanda to the nation that shouldn’t be fucked with like it was before Coates ruined everything. No more of these tired stereotypes. Just black excellence across the board.
