I feel The latter part is a bit over reactive. Jean is too central to too many main characters to be absent, let alone how well she stands on her own. I concede the film could delay or prevent Phoenix elements from being introduced but I welcome that.
I think Sophie was great in DP. At least, very improved from apocalypse.
Your favorite superhero- the one you visit these forums to talk about. Would they talk to others the way you do on this message board?
If Jean went Lesbian, who would be her girlfriend??
I cant see Jean as a lesbian and even if she was, she definitely wouldnt be with someone like Emma
Psylocke seems more likely
Speaking of this movie...after the second viewing I’ve come to the realization that it’s not Dark Phoenix movie. It is about Jean NOT becoming Dark Phoenix again despite it being her “destiny” and she doesn’t become this because Xavier believed that she can control her powers and that she doesn’t need fixing. Which is in contrast to X-Men: The Last Stand where Xavier believed that Jean couldn’t control her power and needed to be fixed, which resulted in her becoming Dark Phoenix.
Sophie’s performance is generally not being criticized though. So I don’t think that will stop Jean from being in the MCU.

I think that Sophie's performance was fine, but the fact that the writing of Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix left something to be desired didn't let her stretch her wings overly much. I mean, she's a great actress. She's the only actor from the last season of GoT whose performance felt nuanced and genuine.
Also, if Jean were to date a woman I think I'd agree with Betsy. They have already shared the ultimate intimacy at least twice.
