Jean seems to see Rachel the way a biological parent might see a child that was put up for adoption but reconnected in their adult life: they aren't close, but there's a connection.

That's a pretty good assessment, sadly.

Somehow, I doubt that if it came down to it that Jean could or would choose one child over the other in any case.

If someone was threatening Nate, Wi-Fi, and Rachel with death, and she can only choose to save one, I'd think she'd choose Wi-Fi. Nate being a reality warper means that he probably survives, and Rachel has a connection to the Phoenix so she probably wouldn't be dead long.

Wi-fi is also the only one that Jean has that actual maternal connection to, the one that was actually raised by her: it's a situation that would suck but it has a clear and definitive answer.

It's also important to remember for everyone that tries to argue that Cable isn't her son because she didn't give birth to him that for all intents and purposes, yes she did. She remembers carrying him and giving birth to him. She has all of Maddy's memories about being pregnant and giving birth.

Why a life or death situation?

Yeah she loved him as her own since he was a baby and Maddie's memories which merged with hers does add an extra layer to this

He was. Maddy and Jean were identical duplicates, so Cable has her DNA... and she remembers giving birth to him.

It's a common theoretical, especially for parents with multiple kids. Doesn't mean Jean hates Nate or Rachel. Also, it was mostly a joke.

And, Mr. Sinister verified that Rachel is a Grey/Summers offspring -- so her DNA would stand up to a paternity test too despite Jean having no memory of said future event.

I think that's what people are saying. That aspect needs to change the X-writers need to do a better job of portraying a Mother/Daughter relationship between the two. Taylor on the X-men Red annual did a great job with that.

I wouldnt say that. Would you consider twin sisters that have kids biological mothers to each other's children bc its a similar situation here. Genetically Cable would be more along the lines of a nephew. She raising him makes him, her child

You're cherry-picking to make your point, because that wasn't what anyone was saying. What was being said was that Jean remembers being pregnant with Cable, giving birth to Cable, and raising Cable until he was an adolescent, him coming back into her life first as a fully grown adult and then as a teen.

She has none of that with Rachel. She wasn't involved in raising her. She doesn't remember being pregnant with her or giving birth to her.

I'm all for Jean and Rachel getting closer and Jean considering her daughter. But it's true that what she has with Nathan is different and that it makes complete sense for them to have a bigger familial bond.
