Jean not accepting initially accepting Rachel makes total sense. Jean had been through one traumatic event after another in X-Factor. And just as she's finally dealing with everything around Maddie and the Phoenix, a young woman who wields the PF shows up calling her mother. Plus she has these awful facial tattoos. Anyone having gone through what Jean did would push her away the first go around. The stifling of the growth in the their friendship and relationship comes through the directives of the writers and editors. We've seen Jean be caring and loving with Rachel by one set, and then at the same time be apathetic and uncaring by others. We know they love each other and without interference I think they'd be much closer than they are, but they'll never have a mother-daughter relationship. I'd prefer to be able to see them interact and work together more, but the X-Office doesn't want it.
Yep. Meanwhile, when Jean returned, not only she didn't had the Phoenix to worry, Scott was dead, so Rachel was a piece of him and a future Jean would like to have, rather than one she feared.
That's it, really. And again, for any guy, some random girl showing up and saying she's your daughter is a much normal and plausible scenario.
Years ago Jean did want to treat Rachel like a daughter, now she treats her like an enemy that she barely cares about...and technically then Rachel would have been a part of Jean as well Omega...
After kid Cable said that she'd handle it Jean didn't seem to have another thought about Rachel after that, telling Rachel that she's not her mother earlier, so she had become cold to Rachel without Rachel having done anything to deserve it...Jean cared more about Bobby's birthday party than finding Rachel...
Still wondering if they'll use the Phoenix and such to get the X-Men and mutants into the MCU...
