I doubt that any writer will say that they screwed up a character because they are black. It doesn't work that way, racism and homophobia can be very subtitle and manifest in ways that not even the writers perceive that is racism.

I really doubt that any white character would be given such character assassination without a way out. They just butchered a character just because

Cable is the closest thing to a son Jean will ever have. I love that relationship even if it is convoluted, so please dont put it between Jean and any other thing. I don't want people hating on it or blaming it for something. Its something that adds a whole layer to Jean's character.

Sometimes, when Jean wasn't out fighting dangerous mutants or mutant-hunting sentinels, she liked to help Xavier as his lab assistant. Nobody can clean a beaker like Jeannie!

I don't think the Cuckoos had a problem with the affair.

But Kitty, Psylocke, Sue Storm and Tony Stark were snide about it. Storm actually expresses hurt but then came around in Unlimited X-Men and Worlds Apart
Beast and Wolverine and Rachel and Havok called Scott out.

The Cuckoos themselves also were disgusted. It caused a riff between them and Emma for awhile.

The Cuckoos weren't bothered by the affair. They were angry at Emma for inspiring Sophie into heroism, which got her killed by Quire on Open Day.
