also character development ≠ romantic relationships. specially on marvel. let's see the previous wonderman example. Wanda had a relationship with him but that didn't make her a better or worse character, that ended and now she is with Jericho, at then end what did her relationship with wonderman mean? nothing
most of wanda's development came from her family or tragedies, not because she was with someone.
i'm not saying jean can't have other relationships but a relationship with scott or someone else is just an accesory, the real developments come from good stories if they came from sleeping with different people they would be erased the moment that relationship inevitably breaks up.

also some relationships are better because they last long, that makes them better for some people. in fact most of the best romances are the ones that last long throught the characters story.

Not really. It's the same creative team from X3 and nothing on trailers wowed me.

It was too early for a dark phoenix movie, we need to know Jean for some time to have a effect.
