I don't think she came off as powerful in the older comics as she did after Johns revamped her, no.

This. Johns really gave her a power and prominence boost from Blackest Night onward. Before then she was either subordinate or Arthur's crazy estranged wife he couldn't make it work with. If anything, Johns really saved Mera.

True. Mera was often ignored and forgotten in the past. I love her character and so glad she is coming into prominence, finally!

Much like on film, overcomplicating costumes seems to be a staple of superheroes. I can only hope Routh's KC Superman shows studios that a more accurate translation can look great.

For what it's worth and to bring discussion back home, I infinitely prefer Mera in Aquaman to Mera in Justice League. Simpler design and more vibrant colors.
