Good catch with that uroboros reference. I knew it was some kind of keyword intended to disable the other Doom but I had no idea it was a call back to an earlier comic. Evidently things didn't work out as intended though.

It's still not entirely clear what happened in the accident. I do however find it interesting that 2099 has numerous madmen believing they are Doom across the wasteland, even before Richards rejoined the timeline. Perhaps then the accident caused Doom's personality and surface memories to be superimposed into the minds of numerous individuals.

Their relative success in emulating the original Doom being dependent on whatever technical acumen they already possessed. Richards proved to be the best stand-in, as only he had the intellect and specialised knoweledge to create a facsimile of Doom's armour. At least, that's what I speculate is going on.
