So at first that made me think this story was about Kristoff being "cured" by Doom again, that is until I got to that last page. So was the spell used to make spoilers:
Reed realize he was not Doom ???

Good catch with that uroboros reference. I knew it was some kind of keyword intended to disable the other Doom but I had no idea it was a call back to an earlier comic. Evidently things didn't work out as intended though.

    spoilers:
It's still not entirely clear what happened in the accident. I do however find it interesting that 2099 has numerous madmen believing they are Doom across the wasteland, even before Richards rejoined the timeline. Perhaps then the accident caused Doom's personality and surface memories to be superimposed into the minds of numerous individuals.

Their relative success in emulating the original Doom being dependent on whatever technical acumen they already possessed. Richards proved to be the best stand-in, as only he had the intellect and specialised knoweledge to create a facsimile of Doom's armour. At least, that's what I speculate is going on.

I think this is one story that needs author's notes! This story is giving me a headache and I have to go back and read it again. spoilers:
So could the scarring of the one who had the memory lapses been caused by being dragged and have nothing to do with him being the real Doom? It was just another Reed??
    end of spoilers

Yeah, as much as I hate heavy exposition (you know, 'show don't tell') I think that a little more explanation would've been useful. Seeing as how the whole confusion is a result of an unreliable narrator and their suspect internal mental state. But perhaps such indulgences are beyond the scope of a one-shot.

    spoilers:
I thought that the comic showed Doom injuring Richards' face on the time platform as the accident occurred. So the protagonist is Richards, the genuine article, or rather what's left of him after Doom's personality overwrote much of his mind. An imperfect copy that lacks the deeper memories of Doom and instead relies upon Richards skill set to do very Doom like things.

Which leaves the question of who exactly is Doom 2099? The one who rules the world and is actively hunting other claimants to the mantle of Doom. I believe Doom 2099 is Victor von Doom, in body and most likely in mind as well. There could've been some transference of Richard's memories to Doom in the accident but I don't believe they are overpowering as is the case with what happened to Richards. Doom 2099's cold attitude and general modus operandi lead me to believe it's Doom in control.

I finally was able to go to the LCS despite of the strikes here in France, and yes : that one is the kind of story that could give you an headache... I hope it will become clearer with the next ASM issues or the 2099 omega one!

Hi Abe, nice to see you were able to manage with all the strikes, etc. Yes, I feel the same way Kintor has some interesting ideas (forgot to comment on them) but I feel like the writer hasn't done his due diligence if even some faithful fans of the original Doom 2099 aren't sure what the shock is going one here! I wonder if Doomscribe will weigh in.

Here is a link to a preview of 2099 Omega...... I am doubting it well help to clear things up.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, IM, but I don't think I can clarify this any. I do think that the only way to understand the whole thing is to forget almost everything you ever knew or thought you knew about 2099. This is 2099-lite ... 2099 post apocalypse apocalypso. Or maybe just blame time travel. The original Doom 2099 didn't end well (that goes for all the 2099 titles), but I'm not sure what prompted this resurrection. Sadly, I don't think it was worth it. It's been fun to see Spiderman 2099 show up now and then in the regular Marvel universe, so I think the goal was to show more of that universe to a new audience (?). Yet the crossover event hasn't yet lived up to the richness that was the 2099 universe.

I really enjoyed the variant cover of 2099 Alpha. Um ... the twist was a surprise but then kinda made sense (did Reed and Doom both time travel, somehow getting mixed up/scrambled?). I don't recall the Ravage being a place ... well, like I said, forget what you know. They can't even bother to use the expletive "shock". They didn't name Doom's floating fortress (it was Valhalla, as I recall) either. There was a lot of explaining going on in the Spiderman 2099 issue that also came out this week, but I don't know if it helped much. "Ouroboros" was used again ... but this time by a Spiderman 2099 dream?

The thing about Doom using the Watcher is both disturbing and strangely bad-ass. I mean, when you think about it, some uber-powerful being just watching us is kinda creepy stalkerish. The Watcher was of course alien and fanciful in the early FF, but oh, times have changed. Anyway, the only Marvel character that ever seems to kick the Watcher's butt is Doom. Not the first time either. So, we'll see how that goes.

Anyway ... I doubt that this cross over event will lead to any more 2099 in future issues. Sad, it really was something I looked forward to every month back in the day.

Thanks for posting your opinion and I agree with your assessment. I think that has been my problem.... trying to fit things into the original Doom 2099 run and it just ends up confounding me. I guess as you suggest it's best to forget most of what you know about classic 2099. Zdarsky's story is probably the best and it works better if you look at it as a stand alone story and forget about 2099. I'm glad you confirmed that there was no location known as the Ravage in 2099. It is starting to make me wonder if Marvel is trying to make some kind of link to the world of 2099 and Old Man Logan. The Ravage reminds me that there is a lot of sections in the middle of the former United States that was called the Wastelands possibly destroyed through some war. And this character that shows up in Zdarsky's story refers to Kingpin, who was in charge of the territory around Nevada. Doom was in charge of the Midwest and was married to Emma Frost. I don't know if this is just a coincidence but in Old Man Quill, the death of Doom's "beloved wife Emma Frost" is mentioned. And BTW, it turns out both Old Man Quill and Strikeforce featured Doombots and not the real Doom. So in the future Earth of Old Man Logan, Doom is still alive. But I thought it was pretty obvious that the one Madame Masque was working for in Old Man Quill was a Doombot and she was really the power behind the throne. But there is a mystery as to just where Doom is hanging out in that timeline.

There's a new review for the Marvel Legends Doctor Doom figure. Nice that it's at 60 fps.

Oh I can't wait to get that figure!

As for Doom 2099, Zdarsky confirmed that the two merged and Doom was put into Reed's body. Link

Thanks for those links, ImperiousWrecked and Ravin' Ray.

I haven't seen the Doom figure or any of the others in a store. I hope not to pay that crazy online prices I've seen.

As for that Tweet, I have to say I hate Twitter. IMO it's harder to have a conversation there than it is here on the MB. Thanks for pointing it out. I probably never would have found that.

So Doom was put in Reed’s body?

So who the hell is the other guy? Also, why is this reveal in a tweet and not in the book?

That's what I was wondering......and it makes the invocation of Ouroboros even more confusing

You're welcome, I think that this would have been hard to find because it was hidden in the replies. Honestly the comic imo seemed much more like a one shot that is loosely based on Doom 2099 stuff than it actually being a continuation of that series or any kind of explanation. Maybe a good character study for Doom with Reed? anyways I was very surprised by the ending since I was not expecting it.

He hasn't hit mass retail yet, and is 2 per case. Gamestop and amazon still have him for preorder I believe along with his new funko pop

Thanks for the update on the status. I wonder how the guy got his figure to do the review? I wonder if he is a shop owner...would a retailer get products in advance or something?
