Aside from Spider-Verse (I haven't gotten to Spidergeddon yet), I haven't really read any Ben Reilly material.....What would be the best book to read starring him? Would it be the first Complete Ben Reilly Epic Book? I've noticed a lot of negative comments about Peter David's run, so I know to avoid that one.

It would be the first Complete Clone Saga Epic, I would think, as that gets the ball rolling on Ben as a character.

Well, I wanted to post an idea and see what would you all consider about it, a new Jackal who was created from the DNA of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, with implanted memories of a false life where he grew with his parents, completely insane who wants his "father" Peter to recognise him as his son, and wants to kill Norman Osborn and his entire family, perhaps him hunting down both Sarah and Gabriel Stacy, with all of Peter's powers and as smart as both his parents.

Honestly, I feel like that would give you another sins of the past problem in the sense that no one really wants to deal with more Gwen kids turning evil. From a business perspective that could damage the brand. Plus no one wants to ever hear from Sarah and Gabriel ever again to the point that they probably have been retconned out of existence since secret wars

I'm not necessarily looking for the beginning stages, as the start of a storyline isn't always the best. I'm looking to get the best part of his entire epic to see if I'll get hooked and want more.

I’m not sure old Ben stories can resonate with new audiences now. He was the first alternate Spidey. At the time, Spidey has only ever tried a few different costumes and having a doppelgänger was unique. These days Spidey has had tonnes of costumes and alt universe versions.

Add to that the fact that many of us were teenagers or younger with less sophisticated senses of good stories and were very accepting of the Clone Saga and its ridiculousness. Adult readers going back to see what all the buzz was about may be left scratching their heads.

Hopefully I’m wrong. Maybe others have a good jumping on point for Mr Reilly. Lost Years, perhaps? Or when he fights Venom?

Thanks for bringing this thread back. Now that Spider-Geddon is over and has thankfully fixed the damage wrought by The Clone Conspiracy, any hopes for Ben Reilly in the future, or should Marvel let him rest until a writer comes along with a great idea that doesn't completely screw him over as a character?

Let 'em live I say. Scarlet Spiders sounds like a good direction to go in, or maybe put him in a team? Either way, Marvel DON'T KILL HIM OFF!!

Agreed, especially on the bolded and underlined. As for a team, I'd say bring back the New Warriors.

Well the Slingers have already been established to still be a thing so why not put Ben & Kaine with them?

Definitely let him rest until they have somebody who actually wants to write the character not some way out there extreme take of what they think he should be (not saying there's not room for change with the character but what PAD & Marvel tried with this last volume was too much of a departure from what I think most of us were introduced to & grew with during the 90's)

A new Slingers title with Ben, Kaine and the original 4 Slingers (new Hornet of course) and a a rotating cast member solar to the Heroes For Hire concept.
