I'm still mad about that. ESPECIALLY after Rosenenberg came across like he expected fans to be GRATEFUL for the nod.

I don't care if Julian and Laura aren't "iconic" like Scott and Jean, or Peter and Mary Jane. Can you imagine what the fan reaction would have been like if MJ hadn't shared a single panel with Peter for TEN YEARS after One More Day, and when she finally did, it was basically in a walk-on role where she doesn't even talk to him, and was just meant as a "nod to the fans?"

Honestly, to me it feels like Marvel demonstrating how they really feel about the NXM generation in a nutshell: "Hey look, they appeared in a panel! Now accept it and shut up about it."

I stand by my analogy. As I said in my preface, it DOESN'T MATTER if they're not considered "iconic" in the same way. If it was something writers were aware fans are invested in enough to make the nod, then there's no excuse for using it as an empty bit of fanservice without addressing WHY the fans wanted to see it.

The very fact that you recognize that the fan reaction would have been very different if it was Peter and MJ should've told you that it's a bad comparison. Hellion and Laura never even got to the point where they were in an actual relationship. At this point, it seems like there's maybe a handful of people who are still invested in the pairing as a result of reading and writing a bit too much fanfiction back in the day, the rest are either indifferent, actively dislike it, or don't even know who Hellion is because he's been all but gone from the X-books for almost a decade.
