Betsy Braddock: Psylocke/Captain Britain Appreciation 2019

Much better than her original Captain Britain outfit - the cape and armoured shoulders obviously invoke an Arthurian knight. It occurs to me though - can she really be Captain Britain as a citizen of the mutant nation?

Betsy is the rightful heir to the Captain Britain mantle anyway. She was first born and conceded it to Brian to live a life of adventure. I am sure there can be more than one Captain Britain or maybe Brian is taken out of the equation altogether somehow. None the less, she could basically say its mine, give it to me. Which would be kind of funny.

Do you think that's why they're going with this instead of the usual mantle switcheroos that are so common in comics? I think it would be more simple that they just race-bend her into an Asian woman, keep Psylocke, and go from there.

If she shows up in a movie, I definitely expect Betsy to be Asian with the code name Psylocke.

That would be funny, but I see it playing out more like this.

I could see Brian happily transferring the Captain Britain mantle to Elizabeth for the sole reason that he's had enough of the superheroics and just wants to settle down and take care of his family.
It could be THAT simple a reason. (Especially as we know from their history as kids that Elizabeth was always the one yearning for grand adventure while Brian was more the studious, bookworm type. He could see this as his chance to not have the responsibility of overseeing an entire dimension anymore).

Long time lurker, first time poster!

I gotta say, I do dislike Betsy's new role as Captain Britain. I do hope Betsy keeps the butterfly insignia and the psychic knife, they are staples of her character (well, the butterfly is). Kwannon taking the name Psylocke feels like a cop-out, doubly so since they seem to want to take the easy way by just giving her the visual identity of Betsy in Kwannon's body instead of a completely separate entity.

I definitely agree that giving Kwannon the Psylocke name feels like a cop-out. It’s like they were too uncreative to make anything new for her.
