As we close out the year of 2019 . . .
Let's celebrate what we loved most of Betsy's adventures in 2018 and what we're most hopeful for her new role as Captain Britain!

It's been a roller coaster of a ride for Betsy as her major contribution to Astonishing X-Men was concluded, the shocking body swap that occurred in Hunt for Wolverine: Mystery in Madripoor, and the family reunion she had for the holidays in Merry X-Men Holiday Special. The end of 2018 showcased her as the team's premiere telepath alongside Jean Grey in the comeback of Uncanny X-Men in the weekly series of Disassembled. In the recent Age of X-Man crossover, Betsy led the team of The X-Tremists in her role to eradicate love from society using her telepathy. Now that the X-Men have returned, it's time for them to enter a new seminal era-- Krakoa. Covered in Jonathan Hickman's House of X and Powers of X, the mutants of the Marvel Universe are building their own society and civilization on the islands of Krakoa. It's time for them to unite as one and develop their culture, economy, and politics among other factors in building a nation.

    Talking Happy Birthday Andy Kubert!!!

    X-Men #29 Feb 1994
    "Return to Hellfire!"
Professor Xavier, Archangel and Beast watch as Sabretooth gets some exercise in the Danger Room. His partner is Psylocke.

The two spar with both getting the upperhand at different times. Psylocke finally wins and Sabretooth admits that he admires her for besting him
without the use of her mutant powers. Sabretooth mentions that Psylocke is winding up to be his type of girl, which she all-too-readily agrees to.
Archangel feels a tinge of jealousy.

Archangel decides to take a walk around the mansion. He sees Cyclops and Marvel Girl putting some finishing touches on their wedding
and wonders if he has the capacity to settle down. Jubilee skates in and delivers an extravagant looking invitation to a Hellfire Club event.
Psylock approaches and the two have a quick lesson on the old Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club.
The two are suspicious of what could be going on now since all the old member were killed off and Sebastian Shaw is now running the show.
Since both have lineal membership in the Hellfire Club, Archangel and Psylocke decide to attend the event together

The two arrive and try to mingle but are soon separated from the group with Sage, who immediately blasts them.
They soon awaken and see that their clothes have been changed. Shinobi Shaw introduces himself to Psylocke and greets Archangel as an old friend.
Shinobi mentions that he wants to start a new Inner Circle and he wants Archangel to be the White King.
He then dispatches Psyclocke by phasing his hand over her heart, which makes her pass out.
Archangel is surprised that Shinobi is a mutant and the two have a quick fight.
Psylocke soon regains consciousness and plunges a psy-blade into Shinobi's head. She sees his troubled past.

She and Archangel leave Shinobi with the refusal to join his Inner Circle.

    X-Men #31 Apr 1994
"Soul Possessions Part One: The Butterfly & the Hawk"
Spiral watches through Revanche's bionic eyes as Revanche seemingly prepares to attack a sleeping Charles Xavier.
Just then, however, the feed cuts out, and the next morning Xavier reveals to Psylocke that Revanche left him a note saying she was leaving.
Psylocke declines to tell him that Revanche left her her bionic eyes.
In Japan, Matsuo recalls his past relationship with Kwannon, then meets with Spiral.

At the X-Mansion, Archangel invites Psylocke to breakfast while Xavier discusses his intentions to re-open Emma Frost's school with Beast,
and Gambit checks on Rogue, who has been acting strangely since they returned from New Orleans. In Japan, Revanche tracks down Matsuo.
She forces him to admit the truth of her origins. Dying of the Legacy Virus, she then asks Matsuo to end her life, and he does,

a sensation Psylocke feels a half a world away, as she and Archangel return to the mansion to find
Spiral waiting for her, offering to answer all the questions she has about her relationship to Kwannon.

    X-Men #32 May 1994
"Soul Possessions Part Two: The Leopards and the Cats"
Psylocke attacks Spiral, demanding that she explain her connection to Kwannon. The other X-Men join the attack,
but Spiral isn’t interested in fighting. As she teleports away, she tells Psylocke to use “all of the eyes” she’s been given to see the truth.
Psylocke reveals to the X-Men the bionic eyes Mojo implanted into her original body.
Beast and Banshee set up a means to view the transmissions from her eyes.

Going back to the day Matsuo discovered her original body, they witness Matsuo making a deal with the Mandarin to use The Hand's science and the
power of his rings to place Kwannon’s mind in Psylocke’s amnesiac body, in exchange for Mandarin receiving Kwannon’s body as a telepathic assassin.
Spiral was hired to heal Kwannon’s body in preparation for the transfer.
In order to make “the game” more interesting, Spiral tells Nyoirin that Kwannon’s soul is inside Psylocke’s original body, causing him to steal her away.
Back in the present, Psylocke travels to Japan to learn more from Nyoirin, but discovers that Matsuo has already killed him.
Matsuo tells her that Nyoirin lied to Revanche about her past in order to mold her into what he always wanted.
Nyoirin sent Revanche to join the X-Men in order to kill Wolverine and Psylocke for foiling the plans of his ally, the Mandarin, months earlier.
Revanche came to respect the X-Men and wouldn’t go through with it.

Matsuo uses the “imprinted telepathic energy” Revanche left him before she died to take back any trace of Kwannon’s memories from Psylocke’s soul.

He then attempts to kill himself in order to join Kwannon, but Psylocke talks him out of it.
Back home, Psylocke tosses her bionic eyes into a lake and walks away with Archangel.

Thank you! Betsy is my girl, so I wanted to make sure we have a pretty poppin' thread up in here. For Betsy, it's less 2019 and more like 20fineteen.

Also, I honestly, without bias, have to say that Betsy is one of the few highlights of the poorly constructed Disassembled. She's been given a voice in a large ensemble of characters, where many of them are being written as wallpaper. The team is giving her the role of premiere telepath, where as Jean is more of a compliment to Betsy in terms of role. Jean already gets the role of leader here, so I'm glad she they're spreading out the love and letting Betsy do more of the telepath work.

I love that she has her own opinions. A few issues ago, she was commanding Ororos's squad. In this latest issue, she 1) would rather focus on finding the kids than take care of Legion, and 2) wants to stop playing with her teammates' minds. She's been shown to have emotional vulnerability when it comes to Warren. And Leah Williams have been calling X-Tremists purple hair porn. So, I'm sure there's going to be lots of Betsy in it.

I haven't seen much Betsy since her change back to caucasian. Is she still a capable fighter or has she lost everything from her Kwannon-body era?
Either way I would prefer her to be the strategist she was back in her Uncanny X-Men days than the thrill-seeker she became! I've seen an image of her with sword and board, it looks pretty impressing, like a british knight, I like the sword and board style cause she's able to fight and protect unlike the psychic knife which is pure offence!
Don't like the costume though, to much color scheme!

That top panel though. Why didn't they color her eyes, she looks blind there to be honest.

She is definetly strategic. We have seen that in Uncanny and Mystery In Madripor. It was very nostalgic and chock full of nods to pre Kwannon Betsy. As far as fighting abilities. It has not been connonicaly shown. But I believe they have stated she would still have them. The only thing said was Jubilee asked if she still was who she was through all that and she said yes Just back to her old body. So I guess we shall see..
