This is my favourite piece of Black Manta art. I love how Joshua Middleton draws him.


Geoff Johns is my favourite Black Manta writer. His origin for Manta was great and added a great dimension to his hatred of Arthur. I also love how savage his Manta is.

Agreed. Johns' Black Manta was just sinister and cruel and really made for a great villain.

I like this looks but for the Aquaman sequel I hope Black Manta gets a more streamlined suit with a bunch of upgrades to make him a more formidable opponent to Aquaman.

The Mech Manta is pretty cool but I was hoping Lex would give him the means to create his own undersea kingdom. That would be a huge F You to Aquaman and make the political situation in the oceans all the more shaky. Plus I would love to see Manta’s kingdom and Khandaq form an alliance.

I don't think this iteration of Manta makes sense to take that angle, he's too petty and angry to sit his ass down and rule a kingdom. It would be cool to see but too many writers only see the petty vengeance angle for Manta, they're not seeing him as a leader or a political adversary. Plus, with Arthur no longer king of Atlantis, I think they are gonna focus on less politicing and more mythology and adventure. I am excited to see what Kelly Sue Deconnick does with Manta, she's been a very emotionally intelligent writer so far, so I'm interested to see what kind of character work she can do with Black Manta. Maybe get him out of this petty revenge stage and into a more machiavellian brand of villainy.
